Anyone going to watch? If so, who do you favor?

I'd like to see Ivory Coast win it, since it's being held on African soil for the first time

most definitely. Don't know enough to have a favorite outside of the ones espoused by the pundits. Will be pulling hard for a decent showing from the US though (Quarterfinals would be awesome).

Ivory Coast probably won't advance out of their group without Drogba. US not making it through past Algeria and Slovenia would be a major disappointment.

Portugal is overrated. Ivory Coast will make it out of the group.

Slovenia is no joke. Beating Russia over 2 legs is nothing easy to do. US have their work cut out for them.

Should be a fun one.

Ill root for USA and then pick an underdog after the group play...

I really hate how people in the US root for other teams over the US. I guess if you came directly from the county it would be fine but the US should always be the main team you root for (obviously having a 2nd team you are rooting for is ok). Im pretty sure people in Spain aren't rooting for Brazil and such, i feel like we should be the same way.

Btw im rooting for Spain.

I agree tmac...

Not to mention we are playing the bloody red coats who raped and pillaged our women 230 or so years ago....

USA all the way for me. My second team would be Scotland, but they never make it.

I watched Cameroon play a few times and they seemed pretty fast, but I don't know how that will translate into the World Cup, especially with Denmark, Netherlands, and Japan.

I have a buddy that was born in Brazil, raised in Scotland, and now lives in the UAE. So, he roots for Brazil, since his home team never makes the Cup. He then roots for the USA, but that is just more of a show of respect for me I suppose.

**BTW, in response to tmac...I was in a few classes with a girl that is insanely against the USMNT when it comes to soccer/football. I don't know how many debates I've been in with her over this topic. If she wasn't so damn hot, it would make it much easier to ignore her.

Love it. Argentina and Holland have always been my favorites. Of course I pull for the U.S., too, and I hope one day I'll be able to take myself seriously while doing so, but really I just love the event. I can watch every game and pull for someone. I think it kinda' goes like this for me:

Argentina/Holland/U.S > North/South American and Asian teams > African teams > France/Former Soviet nations > rest of Europe.

Really, I just root for grudge matches too. The atmosphere in games like England-France/Germany, US-Iran a few Cups back, is what sports are all about.

seriously, America is a mish-mash of other, older countries - it is retarded to say you should have to root for the US first

mine probably go

1 Netherlands - lived in germany for 7 years, the Dutch played way more beautiful football while i was there, and all my favorite players are Dutch
2 Italy - i am half italian
3 USA - altho that game in 2006 tested this order - given the constant flopping by the Azurri
4 Czech Republic - no idea why
5 Portugal - loved Figo

bottom 3

1 Mexico - seriously? fans throw bags of **** (among other things) at opposing players, they should be banned from playing
2 Germany - just hated their brand of football when i lived there, also bunch of divers
3 Italy - my other half hates them and their flopping horseshit

I know, right. It'd almost be like a kid from New Jersey having a favorite basketball team in North Carolina, only on a much larger scale.........
