Hold the Ace SP Prospect in AAA, 3rd Pro Season? Topic

I know I'm a veteran and should know this by now, but humor me please.

I've got a very nice SP prospect who still has maybe 10 points to go in significant categories, to reach his projections.  He's had two full seasons under his belt, in the minors and his numbers are good enough for big league ball, right now (and frankly, I could use him in the rotation).

Provided I find a "patient" big league pitching coach for the upcoming season, does playing him in the bigs risk "stunting" the dude, under HBD as it hangs over our heads?  Should I keep him in AAA, even though he'd be a good big league pitcher for me, already?  (In perpetually pitching-challenged Dirt.)

Here he is:

And God bless America and give its Citizens wisdom to know what is harmful or threatening and what is not, this 9-11, and what to do about it.

If he's going to play a significant role on your ML, call him up.  His 94 patience allows you to re-sign him for the rest of eternity, he's close enough to his peak, and a low patience ML coach is only going to negligibly affect his progression at this point.

Thanks and BTW, I was wrong.  He has three seasons under his belt.

I'd use him if I needed him.  I bring up 3 year pros quite often with what seems like no ill effects

My general theory is I only bring the player up if I think I have a shot at the World Series.

Yeah, it's kinda against the spirit of tanking to call up a quality ML ready player.

Call him up. My personal opinion is that he is more than ML ready. To me he looks like a 73 that will pitch more like a 77 or 78. I've been wrong before but he looks good to me.

I just looked at him again. He has top shelf stuff. His health, stamina, and durability are the reasons he is not rated higher. I love these type of guys. I have a 69 OVR guy who was the leading contender for the Cy Young until maybe 115 games into the season. He was like 12-0 with a 2.03 ERA. He has leveled off since then. But seriously this kid is good. He has better stuff than a lot of higher rated pitchers.

I know I'm new around here but you do know its possible to field a competitive team and still have a stud in the minors.

If he's better than even one of your current ML options, of course you should call him up. He's already good at age 24, and his middling makeup means he'll probably never be quite the pitcher his projections suggest.

Yep, he's probably more or less done progressing.  I see no reason to leave him in the minors except if you like having guys have shorter ML careers and longer minor league careers.

I think the point was that the "If I can't win the WS, I'm not calling up prospects" attitude is a bit problematic.   Three or four top players can be the difference between 60 and 90 wins.    And, if the owner with those prospects believes they should only be called up if he can win the WS, he's giving away 30 wins.   To someone.
The flip side is if the poor teams have to continue to call up their young players after 2 and 3 seasons in the minors because those players are a improvement to their major league team, while the top teams have the luxury to keep their young players in the minors until their 5th season because they already field a top team, then we have a inherit unfair advantage to already successful teams that will perpetuate the status quo.

In my opinion no owner should  be expected to bring up a prospect before their 5th season, that to me is fair and allows rebuild teams a reasonable time to be on the same competitve scale as successful teams.
