A couple of you have said you'd rather go, say, 13-13, RPI in the hundreds, and then miraculously win your CT to get to the NT, than go 21-5 and PT. In RL, I can see that. Your campus and your boosters are thrilled to make the dance, which probably saves your job after a mediocre season. But let's not call it a better season than the other one. My goal is to achieve success year after year. Is the 13-win NT team better set up to do that than the 21-win team? I doubt it.
I was in this situation last year - won 21, rpi 53, but just missed the NT. I then beat five top-100 teams to win the PT, and finished rpi 35 or so. I'm 20-0 this year with a top 15 rpi. So would I have traded places with the mediocre 13-win team that has one good weekend and sneaks into the NT? I would've been jealous of them for a bit last year, but long-term,I'd much rather be in my shoes.
