My game last night Francis Marion vs Georgia College in Wooden.   I had my best player (McClure) distro set to 17 - it was the highest distro for the game, yet he only took 4 shots and 4 foul shots so i dont understand.  I ended up losing by 2 points.

It was the highest, but what were the others?  How much was it highest BY?

add - understanding how distro affects shot attempts is one of the biggest things to learn about the game.  In the old engine, it was a little harder to understand, but even in the new engine, it requires some patience, and to a certain extent an attitude of looking at things more from a 'how does it work' POV rather than 'how I want it to work' POV.

if someone is set to 10, and starts with 4 guys set to 5, in theory, he should get 1/3 of the called plays (this does not count fastbreaks or off rebounds)

but on the same team, if a backup is set to 4, and his teamates are all set to 1, that fellow will get 1/2 of the called plays.

Now if the backups play for 16 minutes and the starters for 24, and you get 40 called plays, on average
the 10% guy gets 8 shots off
the 5% guys get 4 shots each
the 4% guy gets 8 shots
the 1% guys get 2 shots

now here is the hard part, the +/- on less than 5 or 6 shot attempts in the game and in real life is probably about 100%, so the ranges are probably 2 to 14 shots for the 8 attempt guys, and 0 to 8 for the 5% guys, and maybe 0 to 6 for the 1% guys

so you will have games where the 1% guys try 4 or 5 shots, and the 10% guy tries 2 or 3 or 4 shots, but by the endo of the season, everyone will be around the expectation.  This is how real life does work over the course of a season, more or less, but is enormously frustrating to anyone looking at one game's box score.

sitemail me if you have any other ?'s

With that distro set up, McClure will take 17/(17+5+9+10+8) or 35% of the shots when it's just your starters on the floor. Things get complicated when your backups come in as you have 2 guys with similar distro to McClure, which will significantly decrease the # of shots he takes. He also didn't play that many minutes (only 22). I would up his distro at least into the 20s and drop the distro on some of your 2nd unit guys. You don't need the distro to = 100, it's about ratios of distro on said player vs. distro of everyone on the court.

I agree, however he only took 4 shots ... even with the highest distro players in the game at each position he should get like 30% of the shots.
Even if he didnt take the shots he should have at least some  assits or turnovers..he had 1 turnover so I think he should have had more attempts..curious if you think the 3 fouls reduced it somehow, other than reduced time?  ie do you think the engine decreases the distro based on the number of fouls a player has?

I noticed he spent allot of time flipping in and out of the game with fatigue and fouls;  I've noticed before that players that don't spend long stretches int eh game, even if they play the same amount of minutes, seem to have a more inconsistent number of shots per game.

I really haven't paid attention to play by plays but I feel like facing a press, guards get more shot attempts?

keep in mind also, I dont thinkl distro is shots - but rather plays - so some plays get run for a guy but dont lead to a shot and some shots dont come off plays run for anyone (say offensive rebounds) so distro means only so much....

Fd touches on an important point.  It's plays not shots.  Sometimes a play ends in a turnover or a nonshooting foul which counts toward distribution but not shots obviously.  Also OR hit the other point, players can get fastbreak or shots off an offensive rebound which obviously count as shots, but not toward their distribution.

like my point guard's fantastic stat line last night - his distro is low, but not tiny.......

That PG did nothing. 1 ast, no reb, no pts in 20 min. Hopefully he played some stellar defense.

he is the spiritual leader of the team

so...about grammar.

Here is another thing I would like to know ... does a play only end in a shot, blocked shot, turnover, or foul?  In other words, can I run a "play" for my Center, but after he gets the ball, the defense gets to him and he passes out of the play to someone else?

If that can happen, there would be no way to know about that particular play (since only the change of possession or shots or fouls are noted in the PBP).

I am not saying it happens, only asking if it could happen.
