I've definitely seen injuries occur away from the field. I don't think I've ever seen one that long, but I've definitely seen them serious enough to warrant a DL stay. It adds a great layer of realism to the game IMO since in real life players get injured off the field all the time. Especially in this guy's case, I guess the story is he was deciding whether to just pitch through the pain and then decided he would get surgery and shut down his season; happens all the time in MLB.
I sent a ticket when this happened to me (many fewer days) and this was exactly SiteStaff's response; he was trying to decide whether he could pitch or not.
Yet, oddly enough, if he decided to "pitch thru the pain", he'd likely be pitching as though he didn't have an injury.
Because, y'know, he wouldn't be injured.
Want to add a level of realism to the game? Let me make the decision... I get to choose between letting my 85-rated pitcher have surgery and miss a season, with the possibility of him returning to his current form next season.... or I ask him to pitch thru it, but he pitches at a diminished capacity, with the possibility of killing him long-term.
THAT, would be kewl.
