OK, I'm at a DIII school.  Looking at a guard with a 1 rating in Athleticism - Potential is high.  He's a 94 WE.  With that kind of WE and potential, I have no idea why he isn't coming out of HS better than 1 in Athleticism.  Must have had a crappy coach.  But I digress...

Where does he max out?  Should I pursue it or walk away?  Discuss.

Walk away.  It will take too long to get his ATH high enough for him to be useful.  Probably won't get above 20 until sometime during his JR year.

I disagree. If his cores are really good and he'll take a redshirt and if he is high-high in potential he could be good for jr and sr yrs.
That is a lot of ifs though...

I concur. I believe he is worth the risk, but he needs a RS and high cores.

give us some more #'s with potentials and also if he needs to play this year or not

If it's for your D3 team you might be able to get away with a single-digit athleticism guard depending on your system...  Only if he's really good, though, and only if there are no other decent options.

His ATH is a 1 because of the court order. Have you  tried playing in ankle chains???

depending on his other cores you could put 30+ into conditioning and get it moving quickly... with a RS he could be a good starting his last 2 years

Speed is 43, also with high potential.
Defense is 7 with average potential.
Perimeter is 62 with high potential.

I think I can get him to take a redshirt.  WE is 94.

I run a press.  I usually don't look at Athleticism below 40 for guards, and only then if it's high potential.

Knowing that you run a press and his SPD is below 50 too and his DEF is just 7 I feel even more strongly that I would walk away.  As others have said, with a RS he COULD be a good starter as a JR and SR, but he has a long ways to go before he can be used.  Low ATH, SPD and DEF in a FCP is a recipe for a whole lot of fouls.

wow knowing his #'s now I would definitely find someone else, this guy will be average at best by his junior year even with a RS, seems like way to much time spent to get maybe 1 good season out of him.

I'm no expert, but after my bad experiences my first 2 seasons with crappy DEF, I wouldn't even look twice at a player with 7 DEF, no matter what defense I'm running.

You can do a lot better.

I don't really need him.  I'm tempted to just take him on an experimental basis, and see where I can get him to.
