Things as useless as "favorite school"... Topic

I'll start:

A player's height.

I would say its hard to know exactly how useless or not that is. .how often has it come up and someone actually done an analysis of it?

I would like it if 'Favorite school' just meant they started out considering you. (Not that I am currently in division one, but it would seem like it woudl even things out a bit for the mid and low guys as, just occasionally, a big fish might land there.

high school stats

I'm more poking fun at the notion that you could be an A+ prestige school in a given state and have not one single guy in that entire state listing you as his favorite.  Its just pointless.  Kind of like high school stats and a player's height/weight.

Yeah its silly.  They could spend a little time making it reasonable.  I haven't had a top 50 recruit in the state of Florida have the University of Florida as his favorite school in 6 seasons.

Yeah, all the guys within a couple hundred miles of Northwestern in Allen list schools like "Northeastern" and "Toledo" as his favorite schools.  And knowing HD, half of these guys will be considered by C+ SIMs when recruiting opens in a few hours.

Favorite school is actually not useless at all. It acts as a multiplier for recruiting effort. After exchanging effort with a fellow coach after an intense battle we both came to the conclussion that the outcome of the battle was definitely affected by me being his favorite school.

I agree Mason.  Favorite school has to be worth, at least, 89 cents worth of recruiting effort.

Preference for close to home (or far away), as well as the high school stats (as mentioned above).  I love it when I see a guy's 3 point percentage is something like .137.  How many shots must have to be taken to be able to generate that number?  What kind of inept coaching are these kids receiving that they are allowed to shoot that much that poorly?

Nope, definitely worth something. I'd estimate based off that experience about 3-5%, which from my experience of being around high school basketball players is about accurate.

The proximity preference is far from useless. I think mostly everybody who has been in a battle where the preference was a factor can confirm this. I've been in several and know for sure it matters.

...this thread.

C'mon, someone had to say it.

I don't disagree that its got some recruiting value.  And I was being intentionally kind of goofy with this thread but the application of it is terrible.  There is literally no way in hell that in real life no top 50 recruit from the state of Florida would, over the span of 5 years, have UF as their favorite school.

I've recruited in dozens of seasons at schools in the B+ to A+ range since FSS came out and have seen exactly 1 guy worth a crap listing me as his favorite.  If I have to carpetbomb FSS to find the guys spread around the country, wouldn't it make more sense to just save the money and spend it on the guys I want?

The only way its worth anything is if its two reasonably local schools and one happens to hit on Favorite.  But my experience is like slot, reinsel say - most of the favorites are crappy out of state schools which makes the whole thing pointless.

I agree the way it's distributed is nonsensical. I thought you more saying it has 0 impact on anything when it definitely impacts battles.
