which pitcher will be better? Topic

they both have approx. 4-5 points to improve in most pitching areas.

Hernandez could pitch in the ML now.  Spencer has a lot of improving to do.

Hernandez will be a solid, 180 IP, 4.00 ERA ML pitcher if he has a decent defense behind him.  Spencer is a Mopup pitcher or, at best, an LRB with an ERA closer to 5.00.

why dont you like spencer is it his pitchs? or splits? doesnt his high vel. and ctrl. make up for some of that? neither would be a starter both long a.

i have a real good team been the runner up 3 straight seasons really sucks! i have been top 3 in both def. and pitching.

I think they produce almost identical results.   It's a coin-flip in my opinion.

That's based on where they are at this very moment.

And both are long relievers.   If you have to start them, your team needs to be better.

I've seen pitchers with splits like Spencer do well if they have a good set of pitches, with at least one 90+.  His vR is only passable and his vL is only AAA quality, so the fact that he only has mediocre pitches will make him a punching bag for ML hitters. I might agree with Mike about their performance today, but when Hernandez's growth is complete, it looks like he'll end up with with 70+ control, 60+ vL, and 80+ vR, along with a solid set of pitches.  The only thing holding him back from being a real winner is his unimpressive gb/fb ratio.  He reminds me of my SP4: http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=1660877

The average control, low velocity and poor GB are why he's downgraded.   He'll walk batters without stiking out many and give up a lot of flyballs(which can turn into homers).   He'll have a better OAV than Spencer but his WHIP/ERA will be very similar.

Spencer is a little better in my opinion.  I see Spencer as a very marginal ML pitcher right now, and Hernandez as not even that.  When they finish developing I think Spencer will be a reasonable 9th pitcher, a viable LRA for a contender, and Hernandez will be a little better than Spencer is now, a nice LRB/mopup/SP6 when your rotation needs to be reset.

your crazy on hernandez a 6th at best when said and done. i disagree. his control will end up close to a 70 not great but not bad his left will be in the 60s his right close to an 80 . his vel. isnt great but i have seen worse will end up around a 40
