No Contact, great Eye, bonking Power Topic

Just acquired JaredMatthews

Offensive numbers are currently   0-84-47-74-98, projects to 0-89-47-74-100.  I think he'll pick up a point in Power and a point in Eye, not that it makes any difference.

Looks like I will need a cheap platoon option in RF, which is why I got him.  I already have guys to handle the vL AB's

So, what would you project for Matthews' offensive numbers?  Can he survive with no contact, great eye, bonking power, and a nice vR?

Does he wash out, or is he a classic TTO (True Triple Option) guy?

He'll be principally employed vR, of course.

I think you just acquired Adam Dunn. So be careful.

I like this play.  Against RHP I would expect maybe .240/.350/.500, and I have been able to get 85% of AB against RHP with guys like this.

Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Hughie Randall           This guy is similar cept with more power and some contact, he hit 44 dingers last season but is sucking bad so far this season.

Wish Mathews had Randall's contact, but I'll take Adam Dunn if I've got him.

BTW, thanks Dedelman.  I like these type of guys, I think.

Patience.   After 40 games you might be looking at 175/228/310 and want to pull the plug.   I do.   But, if you're going to try him, you have to give him AB.

I gave a player like this a shot last season, he didn't do too bad:

Julio DeLeon

There are no Adam Dunn's in HBD. It's not possilbe to have that combo of HR, BB, Ks, and low ave BA.

You can get 3 of those 4. There will be fewer BB.

Moe you have Rob Deer and that will be only during Mathews best years.

Thanks Cricektt.  I was thining I had a Mark Reynolds type bat (200+ K's), but Deer may be a better template.  He was .220-.320-.440 for his career, usally hit 25-33 HR's.  If I can get between thos numbers and the one dedelman suggested, maybe .230-.330-.470 vR, then I would be pretty happy.

I think those will be his numbers in his best seasons. He is going to have seasons where his AVG and OB are going to be a lot worse.

With his contact rating he is going to miss a lot.  In fact, he may drive right by the ballpark on the way to work.
