What can I expect back in a trade for this guy? Topic

I have some cheaper options who are better outfielders, and I have an AllStar at 1B already, so I'm looking to move him. He'll be a free agent at the end of the season. I'd like either a prospect or possibly a back-up ML SS.

I wouldn't expect much... he's a 1B OPS'ing .750ish.  Fine player to have on your team, but I wouldn't expect anyone to go out and spend something significant to try to acquire him.  If he had a great eye or better splits, he'd be a real nice player.

Yeah, I'm hoping to get a defensive replacement SS out of it.

Salary relief....maybe

Yeah, that's my main goal. I have a couple promotions I want to make and I'm close enough to the cap that I might have to transfer funds to do it.

You might find someone to trade a more expensive player for him, but you won't get anykind of a prospect, I think.

You can DFA him if you need the cap relief urgently enough.  Or move him and half his salary for a cheap 25th man.

As an aside, if you can get by with the salary this season, he'll probably yield type B compensation next season, and he could very easily be signed by someone else once his demands drop in ST-- he's a good reserve COF/1B.

Would this guy hit enough at the ML level to be a defensive replacement SS?

hose are some pretty awful splits and eye, but the contact and power are pretty good.  My current SS is one of the worst defensively in the league.

Do you have any defensive SS's in the minors? Bradshaw is a lot better than your current SS

That dude hits better than most of my defensive replacements, and, sad to say, many of my starters.  But his fielding is not as good as my typical defensive replacement.  Really, though, how many at bats do you think this guy will get over the course of a season?  If he is the best defensive replacement you have, roll with him and just bury him in the lineup on those days when you need to rest your starter.

My plan is to have George Boone play SS if he can develop his glove enough, but that's at least a year away. He'll always be a liability on defense, but his bat should more than make up for it.  My only defensive SS that has a chance to be a MLer is in LoA.  So Bradshaw could definitely fill that role for a while, even when Boone finally is ready.

James Barber was pretty similar to your guy seasons 13-15, and S16-17 offensively; probably more than a little better than Bradshaw with the stick.  In Iowa City Bradshaw would hit about .220/.260/.350, and provide 20 or so (+) plays with a FPCT of about .970.  That's probably OK for a D-replacement.

I've seen a big difference in how my pitching performs when using a superb defensive SS. I really wouldn't use Boone at SS. He looks to be a 3B

How a defensive replacement SS hits is irrelevant.

Ideally, yeah, I would use Boone at 3B. I already have a couple other 3B's that can hit, and virtually no one better for SS. Our world is particularly thin at SS. Maybe if Bradshaw can get on base closer to .300, I'll play him there full-time.
