How could I have avoided this loss?

I went +1 as he shoots a lot of threes and has no inside scorers and weak rebounding. He shot 6-18 from 3 for the game, which I'm good with. I'm pretty ****** off that his marginal SF and C went nuts against pretty damned good defenders for the low DI level. It really makes no GD sense at all for those two players to take all the shots, much less torch my team.

And I loaded my distro up on Koziol and Grobstein, as he has weak defenders at the 3 and 5, but Sexton takes all the shots. I know Grobstein was doubled, which explains that partially, but there's no damn reason for Koziol to take 2 f***ing shots the entire game. He wasn't in foul trouble, either.

Is this a fluke type game, or could I have done something better?

my vote is for a little bit of both but mostly you just got burned by the random nature of the game.

i'd have gone uptempo probably, especially if i suspected that he might play slow down (not sure if you had reason to suspect this or not, i didn't really look).  looks like your team just didn't take enough shots...a product of the slowdown, the rebounding, and that you bricked a lot of free throws leaving you with a lot of empty possessions

I would have went uptempo as well. And looking at the boxscore, he murdered you on the offensive boards which means he got even more shots than he should have running a slowdown tempo which only works in his favor.

He took 48 shots compared to you 34 running slowdown.

Yeah, uptempo is a good suggestion. I wasn't sure if the discrepencies between our two teams was enough for uptempo.

Was there anything I should have done differently to prevent all his offensive boards? I don't think his team is better than mine on the boards, especially not enough to warrant his 48 shots vs my 34.

What really upsets me is a marginal player like his SF going nuts against my best defender, and his C against Grobstein.

WHY DIDNT YOU DOUBLETEAM SLOAN!?

I mean, their C is wayyyy better than their FRESHMAN PF.

Sloan averages double digits while their terrible freshman PF averages 0.7 points a game and is a total non offensive threat!  No brainer.

I guess I thought that Grobstein was more than capable of slowing him down, given his superior ath and excellent defensive rating. Guess I was wrong.

Their SF actually averaged a much higher percentage of the offense than Sloan, if I remember correctly. I considered double teaming him but Koziol who is my 3 is faster, much mroe athletic, and also an excellent defender.

I mean, he should have been BUT there would have been absolutely no downside to using a doubleteam on the center since the PF was so bad.

you are absolutely correct, I should have doubled Sloan, no question.

Is there anything I could/should have done to get more shots for Koziol? I never have been in the habit of giving too much distro to one player - for example, the distro for this game looked like this for me:

Koziol 22
Grobstein 18
Sexton 17
Jamerson 15
Jones 11
Zhong 10

Would I be better off giving like 30 or 40 to someone if there's a matchup I really want to exploit? I generally would give someone 3 or 4 more points max, but maybe that's not enough.

When it comes to player dist., I'm fairly lost.

In general, I try to keep it pretty even and I find that the better players will still naturally get more touches.

When it comes to making dist. uneven though, I just don't know where the line is between exploiting a favorable matchup and forcing the issue too much...

Would you recommend going uptempo against my next opponent?

If you want to assure more shots for a guy in a single game, you need to move this distro out more...

Koz 25
Grob 15
Sext 12
Jame 9
Jones 8
Zhong 7

or even more.

Over the season what you've got will lead to almost exactly those % of the offense. but in any game there's leeway based on DTs, +/- of D, etc.

(caveat-- i haven't looked at your team, so have no idea what distro i'd actually use. this is just if you are sure you want to get 1 guy more shots.)

I won my game this afternoon, but it was another stupid box score. Got outrebounded by a team that inexplicably played a +2 defense, to my -4, and I had much better rebounding ratings IMO.

Makes no sense.
1/28/2012 2:09 PM
and jesus, I know my team isn't full of great FT shooters, but should C rated guys be shooting 50 percent? that's annoying as hell.

OK, I'm done whining. Thanks for your advice everyone.
