Why do you say that Mike?  I want to learn what I did wrong.  My reasoning as to why I thought it was a good trade is that Rijo is on the downside and losing value pretty quickly, is paid $20M a year and is under contract for a few more years.   I compared Iglesias's ratings to other SS in my world. 

I guess I figured 10 years of a pretty good SS for 2 more years of an overpaid declining outfielder was a good deal, not to mention I can add a couple pretty good free agents with the extra money.

I forgot you can't see projections.  Iglesias projects to mid 80s in all fielding categories.

36 - 86 - 92- 56- 66 hitting projections.

Looks like the other guy is using Iglesias principally against lefties. 

I would expect him to be a .740-.750 OPS guy, maybe.  With the low contact he'll have some crappy years, too.

You traded away Manny Rodriguez for an average 3B.

Rijo dropped a bit in power this year....that was it. Doesn't look like he will drop much next year.   He will mash for the duration of his contract.  And then he would have been worth a Type A pick.

You might roll his salary saved into IFA's next year and try to recover his value that way.  Might be a smart way to go.

Iglesias is no SS, btw.  Don't fool yourself.

Rijo is probably a top 5 hitter in your world and will be for several more seasons.

Isglesias is not a SS and he never will be.    He's barely progressed in any fielding ratings and none of the hitting ratings.  He is who he is.   He's an average hitter, at best, vs RH and that's who he'll face 2/3 of the time.    It's a horrible deal. 

Usually I wouldn't answer this because I have a hard time giving up a great deal for a half season of some MVP type guy, so I might have a much different view than most others. 

But RIJO is signed for another two seasons.

So whoever was "kind" enough to give you Iglesias, will get 2.5 yrs of MVP type performance for a guy that should NEVER be allowed to play SS. He could be a good defensive 3B, but what a terrible bat for a 3B. He is DONE developing. He MIGHT gain a point here and there occasionally, but for all intents and purposes he is as good as he is going to get.

I'd have at least given you two Iglesias type bench warmers for a 4 time MVP with a few seasons left in the tank.

I forgot about the Type A compensation.  I shouldn't be so worried about losing my veterans in free agency.

Problem with the "put the $ towards FA" idea is FAs that good are not so common.

Just because you have freed up 20M, doesn't mean there will be 20 Mil worth of value in the FA pool next season.

yeah Iglesias is not a SS and will never be. Rijo will still be a top 5 hitter for next 2-3 seasons. I would pay him 25 mil per jk.
