How valuable do people think the Runs Created stat is? I personally feel that it overvalues OBP vs SLG.

It's tougher to participate in the creation of runs if you don't get on base.

You can't develop a SLG percentage without getting on base.

I just think all things are calibrated and their formula is either accurate or it isn't

As a general rule, I look at RC27 and don't have much complaint with it when determining who my better hitters are.

I was trying to determine what catchers to go after in 1 of my leagues because I read your PC postings. I divided RC27 by 6 to get a runs created per game to measure against the PC factor on ERA. Does that seem right to you?

It is easy to use runs saved (based on Mike's PC-to-ERA numbers) and figure how many runs created you can give away before the upgrade in defense/downgrade in offense becomes a net loss. Does that make sense? To be honest, it doesn't feel like my sharpest writing.

As for runs created, I do not know which formula HBD uses, but most formulas in use are accurate when cross schecked against actual results, which is to say when you add up a team's run created by players it often is close to the number of runs a team actually scored.

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
Yes, it runs higher in HBD.

But I should add that the total runs created for my individual players is usually 5-7% higher than my team's actual runs scored: I consider that pretty darn accurate.

Maybe you need to work on efficient lineup construction.

The other thing is that lineups that aren't necessarily inherently inefficient but are generally slower than average tend to lag a little behind their runs created.

Well, assuming you accept the .12 per 10 PC as reasonably accurate, you simply need .12 RC/27 more from the C with a 10 pt lower PC.   I'd probably want more because your pitchers have to work harder(throw more pitches) so I'd want an "advantage" if I use lower PC.

Why are you dividing RC27 by 6 instead of 9?  Your catcher would account for roughly 1/9th of your team's plate appearances (slightly more if he bats high in the batting order, slightly less if he bats low in the order.)
