10-17 record makes post season (non CT winner) Topic

In Allen, the team I'm playing in the PIT was 10-17 in the regular season yet still made a post season tournament.  They appear to be a good team as they won their first 2 games in the PIT, but still how can anyone justify allowing a team that lost 14 of 16 conference games and lost their 1st round conference tournament game making a post season tourney?

I assume you're talking about Ark, Monticello.

Probably because Gulf South Allen this season is going to shatter the single-season D2 RPI record and sent 10 teams to the NT/9 to the second round/6 to the Sweet Sixteen.  The other two teams went to the PIT.

So even losing 14 conference games only means the team is losing to all post-season teams and almost all NT teams.  No, Monticello isn't an NT team, but 14 conference losses certainly doesn't prove it's not one of the top 100 (as proven by winning the first two PIT games).

I would be shocked if most PIT teams could win more than 2-4 games in that conference.

Maine, Farmington it appears also had a tough league with 5-6 of the top 25  teams.

Maine, Farmington is in the toughest D3 conference in Allen and one of the best D3 conferences in the game.

I agree that the conference is stellar..... but that doesn't mean a team that only won 2 conference games should make the post season as well.

My bad on guessing the team without looking.  Just assumed based on the 10-17/2-14/won first two PIT games comment.

The odds of there being two teams matching that description in the same world are not all that likely, to say the least.

I think 2 wins already proves they belong. The system got it right and put in teams that deserved to be there, even if their record was less than stellar, based on talent and quality of games...

Yeah, it's easy in the abstract to say they didn't deserve to be in, but name some teams that deserved it more.

where were/are they in the projection report?

I'm not going to pretend that I'm all that special of a coach or that my team is all that amazing, but I have a D3 squad that has 59 ATH and 62 DEF.  Both rankings would put me in the top 25 of D2 teams.  I'm in the same D3 conference with Maine, Farmington.  The conference is good enough that my team ended up losing 7 times in conference play.   One of our other teams is run by a terrific coach, has a team overall rating of 615, and ended up losing 9 (!) times to conference foes.

Just because Maine, Farmington only won twice in conference play, it doesn't mean they aren't one of the top 96 teams in D3.  And has been pointed out, they've already won two games in the PIT.

I'm biased since I'm sort of standing up for my conference mate here.  But at the same time I really don't think restricting this team from the postseason is a good idea.  It isn't like it is easy to still be ranked highly in the Projection Report with a 10-17 record.

The one thing that might make sense is maybe making some kind of eligibility for D1.  A 10-17 team making the postseason is almost for sure going to come from a BCS conference and that team benefits from baseline prestige as well as the big recruiting benefits that come from the money the BCS conferences make.  If they can't do better than 10-17, I'm not going to shed tears.  The D2 and D3 teams don't get that benefit so I don't see any problem with a 10-17 team going to the postseason from the lesser divisions.
