Signings haven't started yet. I'm going to say right there, no one knows anything. Please check back in a few days.

There's a thing to mention about scouting and targeting. I think coaches are trained (Pavlov style) to check in frequently during the recruiting cycles prior to signing. The system seems to be designed such that you don't need to, but that's making me freaking edgy. The Attention Points accumulate every 3 hours. At random intervals other scouting options open up on recruits that you've allocated AP. Then you can visit and make promises etc., but it's hard to get your bearings on how to sort the information and select targets (or bail) in the new format.

Things probably won't be clear until the 2nd round of recruiting in the off-season. At this point, you have to reserve judgment.

I have 975 cumulative attention points into a recruit and still have yet to unlock any other recruiting actions. We are nearly 72 hours into recruiting and I have just been moving around attention points. It honestly has been a bit boring. Admittedly, the recruit in question is a recruit that is projected at a higher level (he is D2 and I am at a C- D3 school) and his preferences are a poor match for my school. I'm testing the limits of the everyone is recruitable statement. For what it is worth I have been the only "Very High" interest school on his list from the first cycle on. You would think after 20+ cycles of very high interest he would let me come enjoy some of his mother's home cooking!!!

So far it is a very dynamic environment, as seble has made numerous changes that have been suggested and corrected errors that were discovered. For that reason alone it has been hard to draw conclusions so far, except that recruiting is going to require a lot of patience. All the changes he has made in response to the suggestions of the coaches make the whiners about seble seem pretty ... silly (I could have used less diplomatic language). It is clear that there is a lot of work behind this beta and it is still changing.

stfu seble didn't do **** for years a few days listening to some people on the forums doesn't change yet
Post all the silly whining you want, but it is clear that a lot of work has gone into the beta.

"Silly" is a compliment to some people compared to the label they deserve. I try to be sympathetic to someone with a recent breakdown, even when they smear it all over the forums.

Yeh he put a lot of work ignoring the 3 biggest complaints and actual prblems that had been said over and over for longer than the 2 years I was here (and he didn't have a positive relationship with the forums when I joined either, people were already mad at him). I dont care how much effort you put into something that might not even be a top 5 problem even if it turns out good.

Again you are the exact type of person I've been calling out you've been here what a handful of months and have 5 seasons and built an average D2 team, you don't know how to play the game and you don't know what the problems are. Seble could do whatever he wants and you'd blindly follow him because he wasn't mia and again yoy have no idea how the game works or what the problems are so you think any change is good change.

Yeh I went off (I prefer the term meltdown) I don't need your sympathy because I don't even respect you as a player or whatever the **** you call gushing over seble every post because you've been here 5 seasons and aren't great.

Is there a guide or FAQ posted somewhere that describes how scouting and recruiting works in the new game?
6/9/2016 5:23 PM
Let's see if this works...Some of this could be subject to change depending on how the beta goes http://test.whatifsports.net/WhatIfSports/hd/Help/RecruitingGuide.aspx

You can sign players for just a scholarship offer if no one else has put in any effort, so the big worry over unlocking visits only applies in a battle, and also only applies when overreaching and/or bad preference matches.

My simplified version so far...
I'm at Holy Cross in Division-1 with a sucky D- prestige.
Team RPI last year finished at 324.

Started with around 60k to scout.
Started with around 9k to recruit.

Scouting was available from the start.
Recruiting was only available from around the 20th game of the regular season til it hibernates at end of regular season (tonight at 11pm).
Signing Day opens around Game 24.
So until game 20, we couldn't contact any players.
And between Games 20 and 26 is Recruiting Period #1.
And Signing Days start around Game 24.
Recruiting Period #2 will start after postseason i think.

Scouting:
For me, in Division 1, i went old skool...
I used FSS to scout every state in New England, plus NY State and New Jersey.
This exposed me to around 120 total recruits, all Div-1 quality.
For a mere $20k or $25k, i was able to unlock each recruit to the top level (Level 4).

Unlocking each level shows all ratings and potential, and importantly, a random amount of preferences for each specific recruit.
Preferences include preferred distance, offense, defense, tempo, team success, coach loyalty, and a couple of others.
Many of these preferences are "neutral" with a recruit only caring about 1 attribute.
Other recruits may have 5 or 6 preferences.
Preferences seem to have a little more bearing on getting to the top of a guy's list, all things being equal.
So anyway, when you like a player, you click on 1 of 4 colored radio buttons, which will add them to your Target List.

Recruiting:
Once you have your targeted player list, you're all set to recruit. But you will have to wait til around Game 20 for Recruiting Period #1 to open.
Once Recruiting opens, you'll be given 20 Attention Points and $3k per recruit.

In the first round of recruiting, the only action you can take is to assign Attention Points (AP's), and offer a scholarship, to your desired recruits. You can divvy the AP's up in any combination or manner that you choose... 60 to 1 player, 30 to 2 players, 20 to 3 players, heck 1 AP to 60 different players if you want. There is no need to "store" these AP's up, which is what i first thought... instead, you want to distribute all of them and sow your oats, because they're cumulative for each recruit.

These AP's accumulate for each recruit. After 2 sessions of 20 AP's to John Doe, he will have 40 AP's in his docket.
At this time, you still probably will only be able to assign AP's, and no other action can be taken.

Eventually, and this is what nobody yet has determined, a player will accumulate enough AP's, and additional recruiting actions will open up. I think the first additional opening action is Home Visits... though if enough AP's have been doled out (not yet determined what this number is), then your 1 Campus Visit for that recruit may be available too. Eventually when enough AP's are doled out to a recruit, all actions are available. My sucky team has a longer journey to have these actions open for typical Division 1 players.

Anyway, depending on a recruit's attention, you may be tops on his list, with Very High interest.
This "Considering" list will show all teams that are at least at Low Interest or better.
The Considering list will show you if any rival school has offered a scholarship, and i think also shows if he took a Campus Visit (5 per recruit).

So for a while you assign AP's and gauge rivals' interest.

At around Game 24 or so, a recruit can sign with you.
Randomly, recruits may want to sign quickly, or may just hold off. Nothing tells you his preference on this. This has been a topic of discussion. I have no real problem with it, but it might be something to add.

So for me, with my 3 openings, I've signed 1 guy immediately, and have 2 guys that I'm in good shape with but who haven't signed yet. They may wait til Period #2 to sign. Apparently a ton more Home Visits won't convince them to sign earlier than they want to.

One topic for discussion is the possible Ebay style recruiting pushes...

Stepping back a second... AP's take effect every 3 hours... but Home Visits, Campus Visits, Promised Minutes, etc, take effect immediately. So last nite at 7:58pm there was an Ebay rush to jump rival owners for recruits. This would be a problem and is under discussion.

Oh yeah, also, since you get 20 AP's per recruit... when you do sign someone, that slot's 20 AP points are remove from your arsenal... so because i have signed 1 guy so far out of 3 openings, I'm now playing with 40 AP's per 3 hour period.

Ok, thats all for now.

So far it's been pretty interesting and enjoyable. The more components that get revealed, the more interesting it's become so far.

I posted most the morning on the beta site, so did seble, and maybe 8-10 others. I thought it went real well & there is a legitimate dialogue going on to make things better. There is really very little trolling / flaming going on, most suggestions, problems identified, and ideas to fix. often seble pipes in with ?'s or answers or a proposal for change.

The new system is far from perfect, but I like it from a big picture perspective. I would urge those who are on the fence to stay there, and give it a chance. I really think the game will take away from the very successful, and move more success to the middle, until a group sort of overpowers the game, and figures out the 'game' within the game, and rise to the top again. That should be exciting for all the vets in the game.

The eBay reference was great. I've been trying to determine the best way to describe it, because it can potentially cause some serious frustrations. Great analysis. It will be interesting. I haven't dismissed the scouting aspect yet because I think there is some real potential there, but I'm really not a fan of the recruiting at this point. Maybe it's just the adjustment, but I find it to be more taxing on my time and otherwise, just boring.
