Friday Morning Musings Topic

1. If you want to go to the Sweet 16, you need 50 ATH/DE at DIII, 55 ATH/DE at DII, and 65 ATH/DE at DI AT THE WORST. If you want to make it consistently, add 5.

2. Incredible Ath and average-good LP goes a long *** way toward a good scorer.

3. High PER/BH/PA guys excel of the bench.

4. One of the best ways to have a good team every year is everyone can play great DE, and each player also excels at one of Offense, Distributing, or Rebouding.

5. The factor of surprise is your number one friend at DII and DIII.

6. Low Post in slashing guards is super-helpful.

Do you have a secondary account?

LOL. I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to say it. Had I been first, benis would have arrived to tell me I'm being a dick.

1.You need more. 75 at D1 unless you have 5 srs and key stats.
2. True, especially at SF.

WTF? What do you mean? I don't have a second account.

Remember the thread a while ago?

These are tips. Before the 3.0 debate and madness the main idea of the forum was to share your ideas with others and make everyone better.
My point was that you aren't that successful. I'm not sure you should be doling out absolutes.

I was not accusing you of using an alias.

I wasn't either actually, which Mike realized.

I imagine it'd be just like First Take with Skip and Stephen A Smith. Two idiots just telling at each for an hour. Whoever shouts loudest- wins.

So yeah sounds awesome.

Why discourage someone from posting what they've learned for others to discuss?

Cub - I appreciate that you took the time to throw out some of your observations. As a coach that's still learning and tinkering with my lineups and game planning, these kinds of discussions can be really helpful. I'm finding there are lots of ways to approach the game, and it's good to hear what other people are trying.

That being said, I tried using #3 on my D2 team this past season. I had a couple guys with high PE, but low DEF, so I had them coming off the bench in different spots to take advantage of their shooting, but keep other teams from exploiting them on D.

Thanks for the post cub.

Ignore mike.. for some reason he feels a thread is not validated until he trolls it.

I've totally broken #1 at D3 and made the S16
Example: season 79 Grinnell in Crum. Average athleticism was 41, average defense was 47. I only had one guy with an athleticism >50, and that was a 51. Made the S16, albeit as a 12 seed pulling off a pair of upsets. You can do it with lots of shooting
The next season I'm pretty sure was below on both athleticism and defense as well and made the S16 as a 4 seed.
Those, however, were both under 2.0 when player ratings were lower at D3. It might be up to 50 now - i haven't tested that theory

For #2 - i find it greatly varies by scheme. At D3, in a flex offense, I find it tough to have guys with LP <90 become go-to scorers. In a motion offense, I find they can have much lower LP ratings and succeed

"My point was that you aren't that successful. I'm not sure you should be doling out absolutes."

By definition, musings aren't absolutes. But I'm sure you knew that, Mike.

A) I wasn't discouraging anyone from posting. I was making a point.
B) If I'm a n00b, I might think it's an absolute. I took some really ****** advice 6 months ago because I didn't know any better.
C) I wasn't the first to be negative. Not sure why you clowns, except mullytroll, are singling me out.

As much as I think mully is a whiney troll(not sure if he knows it or not), something like that coming from him would have more value. We'll never see it, because mully does nothing but whine and troll, but cubcub is not in the same class as a coach. Once is very good, one has 2 conference championships in 16 seasons or, if you prefer, a worse rate than me. The results aren't there.
