Double Era Progressive with a twist - Full! Topic

Looking for a new challenge with a progressive league? Well you just found it!

Introducing a double era progressive that will utilize player "contracts". In the inaugural draft you will select 12 players. After the draft you will post your team with:

4 players signed to 3 year contracts
4 players signed to 2 year contracts
4 players signed to 1 year contracts

After the inaugural draft all players drafted in subsequent drafts will be signed to 3 year contracts. I/R years count towards the contract term.

When a contract expires the player re-enters the draft pool. There will be a Larry Bird rule where each franchise can extend a player for 3 additional years. This player's contract will bear an asterisk. Only 1 asterisk player will be allowed on your roster at a time. There will also be a mid-level exception where you can release one player per offseason with years remaining under contract.

There will be a trade review committee filled out by owners on a rotating basis. There will be anti-tanking rules. And an emphasis will be placed on having a competitive and fun league.

The inaugural draft will be a ABBA snake. You can pick your franchise city - first come basis. You can pick your draft preference - near 1, near middle, near end. A lottery will decide the final draft sequence.

Sign ups are open!

There are 622 players eligible for the inaugural draft class with names you know including:

Blaylock, Cheeks, Hardaway ( both of them ), Kidd, Nash, Stockton, Billups, Gervin, Magic, Stackhouse, Barry ( the whole family ), Vince Carter, Dr. J, McGrady, Pippen, Barkley, Bird, Duncan, Garnett, The Mailman, Outlaw, Rodman, Webber, Kareem, Cowens, Ewing, Gilmore, Kemp, Moses, Mourning, Mutombo, Hakeem, Shaq, Parish and The Admiral.

Don't miss out on the ground floor of a new league!

Update - League is full!
League will run a 20 year era starting with 1979 and 1999.

Why so close?
In 20 years you will be at 79--99, and the 79 players will start repeating.
Why not 59--89? That way you get a 30 year league without repeating players.
I'm open to your suggestion if you intend on joining. Anyone else prefer the 30 year span?

The problem with 30 (and even 20 to a lesser extent) is that the talent gap in players from the newer players to the older players is so wide. All the best teams would be mostly if not almost completely comprised of the newer players

Start years are of interest to me.

If you go 30 years, I like 69-99. For 20, I like 79-99. Repeating players isn't that big of a deal to me - there are only 2 or 3 in all of nba history that played 20+ seasons - but that's just me. I do agree with Ben in that the talent gap is massive with the way the sim rates modern players, but I'd rather have the larger player pool than another single season prog.

Can you use the Larry Bird rule more than once on the same player?

No. The longest contract any player can have is 6 years.

Fair enough. Will the contract lengths also carryover to trades?

A 3 year contract for all newly drafted players??

What if we only want to use the guy for one year - can we cut guys who still have time left of their contract?
Excellent question given that there are more than a few one hit wonders in the Sim. My initial vision was that you could not cut a player under contract. However, to provide additional flexibility, each franchise will be allowed a mid-level exception where they can release one player with years under contract per offseason.

How do we draft a guy to replace an IR guy - do we give him a 3 year contract? - then what happens when the IR guy returns?
The newly drafted player gets a 3 year deal. The I/R year counts against the I/R player's contract.
