Can this pitcher be successful? Topic

Two elite pitches and velocity but mediocre splits and poor control.
I couldn't find a good comparison in my world. Hasn't exactly been lights out in the minors (FWIW) so I'm guessing ML results may be underwhelming.
I usually overlook poor pitches if splits are great but not sure it works the other way around.

780 Ks - 750 ip - .229 oav is pretty close to lights out. 350 AAA games under his belt..he is ready to go!!!

Control's good enough and I haven't actually seen a two-pitch RP have both that good. And being an RP you can switch him to a lower leverage role if he's not lights out. Fire him up!

Id expect a 1.40 whip from him.

Splits are overrated. He should be fine, but he might struggle a bit at giving up home runs.

I don't think he can succeed with those ratings and I would expect an ERA in the 5s.

If you give him 400 ML innings let us know how it turned out. Of course, if I'm right you won't give him 400 ML innings.

I would never use him as anything more than a minimum salary LRB

Nothing more than a mop-up guy or break in case of emergency AAA arm. 2 pitches, low splits, low control is not a successful recipe regardless of how good the pitches are.

How does minor league stats mean anything on they will perform in the ml?

It means nothing at all.

UPDATING thread...

This guy got the medical boost this year and bumped his pitches up even higher (97, 101 now). Small boost to control, splits and velocity too. We are at the end of season now but will probably finally give him a chance in the majors next year. Still have no idea what to expect performance-wise though. He has no options so going to have to grin and bear it for a while once he's up.

I'd play em. He will drop down to 100 for his second pitch but I'd put him in as a SuB with a pull of 5.

Updating thread again -
170 ML innings.... he ain't that good. Basically an inning eater while he's cheap. Thought he'd be better but I now believe pitches are just not that important.

You can't look at pitches alone. You have to consider them along with vL, vR, Control, GB/FB to determine what will work along with the park you are in.
