i don't think there is really an answer to this, i think you basically just have the advantage or not and that is how it is. of course the +/- settings will impact who has the better rebounding, but i don't think there is synergy between having good rebounding and any specific game planning strategy. the shooting 3s thing, i mean, i kind of can see it - but how often is a team equally efficient across a wide band of shooting? not very often. we all need to play our teams first, and the opponent second - meaning, its ok to tweak stuff based on the opponent, but it can't run counter to the fundamentals of the team. you don't kneecap yourself in the hope of kneecapping your opponent, too (except potentially in extreme situations where you are less than 10% to win). its more like you can break ties based on the opponent, for example you can flip two guys on the depth chart who were basically a toss-up on who to play where, in the first place. but you almost never should be doing things that are objectively worse for you, in the hopes of making things... more worse? for the opponent. so i don't really buy the 3 point shooting.
its not really what you are looking for, but sometimes against a stronger opponent ill default to play a negative, because then they are shooting higher-volatility 3s and that could very easily break my way. then the negative shores up my rebounding, or improves on the advantage or whatever, so its basically an even trade on balance, but in reality, when the opponent has a good game and is making shots, i'd be screwed regardless - so may as well plan on the case where they are a little sub par shooting wise, which also makes rebounding more important, and makes taking the guaranteed rebounding advantage even more attractive.
