Brand new to HD - looking for any advice Topic

I've been playing HBD for many seasons and started HD with the free season. I tried to find a tutorial or basic mechanisms of HD, but wasn't able to easily locate it. I have questions about the entire structure of the season, practicing, game plans - everything. Not sure where to start. I reached out to one of the recommended vets for advice and he's yet to get back to me; it hasn't been that long. Looking for any advice that I can read of anybody can provide me with. I joined IBA and we're just getting underway. I guess the first thing I need to figure out is how to allocate my minutes in practice. Thanks in advance!

Hey DGC, this pinned guide at the top is a solid starting point. From there, I def recommend mentors as well -- there's a list of mentors you can find here.

I'm on the list of mentors and have 3 DIII NC's to my name but I've been away from the game for a year+. Happy to try and answer some questions but other names on the mentor list may be better suited for supporting you. I know sportsbulls is a rising star who has offered to support new players so he may be worth reaching out to.

go to 'coach', 'practice plan' & click on the blue help on the right.. it's a start :)

i would start with 20 min each off-def then 5-7 min to keep from losing any, then 8+ for improvement..

In addition to a mentor you must read the pinned forum post how to win at D2 and D3. It is also a must read.

I am in the process of reading the pinned forum. Thanks guys! There's a lot to do. Keep it coming if you have more info/advice. Feel free to sitemail or post on here.

Its not as much as HBD, and you've managed that. However unlike HBD, you have to actively "scout" to open players to recruit efforts.

The issue with that forum now is that it was for 2.0 recruiting so a lot doesn’t apply. Also, I Recommend putting 22-25 minutes in each set rather than 25.

Excellent for some things, but outdated on others. Nothing beats having a mentor (or 3) to bounce ideas off, IMO.

Hey man. I shot you a sitemail. Feel free to hit me up anytime with questions. I'm no where near the best coach on here but I've been playing for a while and have managed to win a championship at D3.

Speaking of which, once you've read through the pinned threads mentioned here, give Shoe's scouting efficiency post a read. It should be pinned imo.

RECRUITING CREDIT:
During the active recruiting periods, every 6 hours, a process will run to process recruiting actions (attention points, home visits, campus visits, guaranteed starts and playing time promises). You'll get recruiting credit at that time.
For example, say a coach assigns 10 attention points to Player A and 20 points to Player B. When each cycle runs, those points are counted toward building interest for the recruit in that school. The more points assigned to a player, the more credit that school gets. The credit stays on that player, even if attention points are then shifted to another player in the following cycle.
For each recruiting action that generates credit, the amount of credit is modified by the school's prestige as well as how your school matches up with the recruit's preferences

I don't really understand this at all. Would someone be able to handicap if for me and break it down for a person with no experience

The number of open scholarships you have determines how many attention points you’ll have to distribute every cycle - it’s 20 as a base, then 20 more per open scholarship. You’ll need to get a recruit interested in your program via attention points, before he’ll accept a scholarship offer, or any other type of effort. So the way you set up your attention points essentially represents how you are prioritizing your potential targets.

At D3, you’ll typically need to invest 75+ AP in D1 and higher level D2 guys (sometimes a little less, sometimes quite a bit more, depending on your prestige, and how you stack up with his preferences). It accumulates, so you can get there by pumping 25 per cycle over 3 cycles, 15 per cycle over 5 cycles, or 5 per cycle over 15. Whatever you want. Other teams may also be trying to get him to accept their effort, it can be very competitive for the good looking recruits. And while you’ll want to be playing mostly in the D1 and D2 player pools, higher level teams could swoop in and take your targets, if you’re reaching too high. The guys who might be a D3 Star for you is probably on the radar of D2 and lower level D1 teams, at least as a backup option. So even if you’re the only guy on him for a while, depending on the player and who is around, it often makes sense to keep a fair amount of attention points on him every cycle, even after you’ve offered a scholarship.

Not sure if this has been explained yet...

When you scout players and find ones you are interested in, you should click on one of the color radio buttons on the players' main page just under his name... either blue, green, orange or red (used as a convenient way to organize). Each guy you click like that will be shown conveniently on your Recruiting--> Home page. Under "Categorized" on that page, you can assign Attention Points.

"Attention Points" (AP's) unlock recruiting actions, and can be allotted to players each recruiting cycle, in any amount but not exceeding 80 AP's per cycle.
The amount of AP's required to unlock actions varies per player, and depends on:
1. your prestige,
2. your Division-level, and
3. how well the players' Preferences matchup with your school.

And the amount of AP's can be adjusted as much as you want each cycle.
A "cycle" occurs every 6 hours, Eastern time 5pm, 11pm, 5 am, and 11am.
AP's and any recruiting actions get processed at those times.

And if for example you assign 3 AP's on a recruit one cycle, and you look at that recruit's "Scholarship" percentage unlocked, it will give you a sense of the value of AP's for that recruit... if 3 AP's unlock 12% of his Scholarship action, then pretty much 1 AP is worth 4 percentage points for the Schollie... 25 total AP's in this example would get you to around a 100% unlock level.

The actions get unlocked in this order (once enough AP's are given to a player):
1. scholarship.
2. home visit.
3. promise visit and promise start.
4. campus visit.
.
