Electoral College Topic

Is unconstitutional and should be abolished. NOW. A democracy that does not count its citizens votes is no Democracy at all. Defund the police. Say their names. Love is love. Election day should be a holiday and mail-in ballots should be mandatory. And people's vote choices recorded. Everyone who votes for Trump in 2020 should lose their voting rights for 10 years.

Directly from the Constitution

Established in Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution, the Electoral College is the formal body which elects the President and Vice President of the United States.

The constitution is an idea. The actual physical document was written by rich, straight, white, slave-owning men so what it says, physically, does not matter at all. We are a democracy and the electoral college is unconstitutional.

You fundamentally misunderstand what the word "Constitutional" means. The whole point of having a physical document is so that, during fraught times, nobody (like you) can fundamentally and rapidly change the systems which have been designed to protect individual rights and freedoms. I don't have particularly strong feelings about the electoral college either way; for the time being I support it, because it generally ensures we have an outright winner in elections (and for several other reasons), but I could be sold on getting rid of it. That's wildly secondary to the vastly more important point that having a Constitutional Republic means you don't get to define what is "constitutional" arbitrarily at your whim. What is Constitutional is clearly defined, and only 75% of the states can change it. Not overexuberant, underexperienced ignoramuses like yourself.

And we're not a democracy. We've never been a democracy.

And I'll say this one more time - if you think that a breakdown of the rule of law in favor of "whatever feels right to you" is going to help underpriveleged communities, I have a hard time believing you're the kind of person who could get into Yale. That just demonstrates an abject lack of knowledge of history, and an abject misunderstanding of how power dynamics work in the absence of formal codified constraints.

Can I try to sell you on abolishing the electoral college, dahs? This is one of the more fun topics to debate (I promise I won't call it unconstitutional or undemocratic)

JFC you are an ignorant fuc*@ng MORON!!

The Constitution is the BASIS for our existence as a Country.
YOU have no idea WHAT the sexual orientation of the "writers" were.

Without that document we DON'T HAVE A COUNTRY.

Please, go the Freak BACK wherever you crawled out from!
IF'n you don't want to abide our LAWS, our Constitution, YOU are free to go wherever you like the RULES of that place.
Every place has some sort of rules.
THIS very planet has rules.

Fail to abide them will kill you and YOU don't get to change them.
Same thing with OUR Law and OUR Constitution.
YOU don't get to change it...............NOT with Me alive you don't.

It's called survival of the fittest.
I'm old, BUT I'd bet my life I'm more fit than you........... and I would NOT abide YOU and YOUR ideas taking hold in MY Country.
YOU are welcome here, as long as you are allegiant to our Constitution. The second you are not, YOU become my sworn enemy.
To death if necessary.
One of us MUST go!

I'd bet on you going!

The Logical Left strikes again. No one here had an issue with that opinion.

LMAO

Hey CCCP! You are voting for Trump. Can you defend this quote:

"When you do testing to that extent, you're gonna find more cases. So I said to my people, "slow the testing down please.""

(And of course I don't agree with that opinion, dumbass)

No. That was a stupid statement. No idea what he was talking about. What he likely meant to say was that we are testing more so we have more positive cases but the vast majority of the people have mild to no symptoms and we have plenty of hospital capacity as well as we know a lot more about this virus. Also there are studies that the virus is weakening so the real data should be hospitalizations, deaths and recoveries. There you'll see real progress.

Not sure why he didn't go there.

Tang, you told me that silence was violence so I took your silence as concurrence with that opinion. My mistake. Please accept my apology.

I saw the video. It was a sarcastic joke. Bad taste? Absolutely but still a joke.

Well, no. I appreciate you at least responding to the question, but it's telling that you gave to interpret his statement to mean something that he didn't say. I take Trump at his word. What he means is "I want to look better by having less cases, so I told people to slow down testing at the expense of American health to help my election chances." That's the literal interpretation. Either Trump is the worst public speaker of all time, or he is actively working to harm health to help himself.

If you are down, I do want to discuss Trump's immigration policy with you. I'm curious what your thoughts are on it. And your general Trump support as well. I honestly don't see how you could still vote for him after that quote, and everything else he has done.

Nope. I don't buy it. You don't get to run back every harmful thing Trump says with an "it was only a joke" claim. He says that about every dumb thing he says.

Even if it is a joke, how can you defend voting for someone who jokes about harming Americans?
