Anybody else excited about opening day... of Round 3?

Since I didn't build rosters for the other teams in the league, I have no basis of comparison for my teams, so I have no idea how good, bad or mediocre my teams will be, compared to the other teams in the league. Sure, I made win-loss projections for each of my teams, but that was mostly based on how well I thought the team fit together. The more holes on the roster, the less I liked the team.... which is probably why I didn't like many of my modern era teams.

Many of us with multiple teams are struggling. This list is sorted by most teams... Eight of the top nine owners (in terms of number of teams) are basically .500 or worse.

I posted the standings (thru 8 games) on a different thread. The #1 pick in a league is a combined 38-42. The #24 pick in a league is a combined 42-38. I haven't run the regression, but the correlation coefficient is going to be a very small positive number.

What is it with the Cubs and White Sox? Why can't either team win a close game? Check out these stats...

Overall, these teams are 9-32 in 1-run games and 56-38 in all other games.

My 2015 Cubs were disappointed that they were left off the above list (their 1-run W-L wasn't much different than their 2+run W-L record). So of course, they went out and lost by 1. In addition, my 1909 Cubs and 1918 Cubs each added another 1-run loss to their ledger.

2015 Cubs: 12-16 (2-5 in 1-run games)

I went through all the leagues. There are nine teams that are -6 or -7 in 1-run games.

The worst 1-run game records are 1-8 (my '64 White Sox), followed by five 1-7's (including Jtpsops, footballmm11, Bill_James47, plus my 1918 Cubs and 2016 Cubs). pmars2001 has a 2-9 team and urband has a 2-8 team. nocomm999 has a 4-10 team.

At the risk of angering Dorothy from Kansas, my Lions, Tigers and Bears...Oh my...I meant "Yankees and Pirates and Robins Oh My" team has gotten hot recently in this offensive crazy league. NO one is really leading us as I have no one in the Top 15 of any category but most are doing pretty well. Depth, not quality which was EXACTLY what I thought as I drafted these guys...I thought Ill just have to be decent 1-8 than really good 1-4 in the lineup.

I guess sending ol' Dorothy in a red thong, tight Daisy Duke shorts with a low cut shirt and no bra and 4" heels over to Sparky's house with a bottle of Everclear is working to keep him distracted....Oh, wait. Am I posting this on the wrong site?

This sort of thing drives me nuts. I decided to dig into why my 1906 Cubs-based team (22-28) is doing so much worse than schwarze's (28-22). It certainly isn't luck in 1-run games; his team (5-11) is even worse than mine (4-7). Well, here's certainly a big part of the reason: among the 1906 Cubs players we have EXACTLY in common, his are performing FAR better:

We are both in 0.98 park factor ballparks, and our respective defenses are similar, and yet the same pitchers for him are allowing almost a run less, and the same hitters are doing 64 points of OPS better.

Looks like a motivation issue. Fire the manager. Or send in the hookers to the clubhouse...may work.
