***NEW***1905 Free Agency Progressive Lg (FULL) Topic

Basic Rules
  • 12 team progressive league starting in 1905 and progressing one season at a time thereafter
  • Initial draft will be a snake style format with draft order determined at random
  • Each team will draft a 25 man roster plus ballpark in the initial draft
  • A free agency component will be part of the league (details to be described below)
  • Future drafts will be worst to first each round based on winning percentage at the 120 game mark
  • Round one will have a lottery system which will be described in more detail below

League Rules
  • League format will be Alt Format D
  • Alignment will be based on the 12 ballparks chosen to match real life alignment as close as possible
  • Salary Cap = 250M
  • No AAA, WW, DH, or clones
  • Trades allowed:
    • draft picks allowed up to 2 drafts ahead
    • 10 vetoes required to block a trade
  • Injuries turned ON
  • Transaction deadline enforced
  • Players who drop out of the database for one or more seasons may be placed on IR until such time that they return

Free Agency
  • After the initial draft is completed, each team will award contract lengths to their 25 players
  • All contract lengths must be between 1-5 years long (new change from original rule)
  • Combined contract length for each team will be 75 total years (75 contract points)
  • After each season is completed, each player contract will reduce by one year until the player becomes a free agent and returns to the draft pool in the next draft—thus giving each team 25 contract years to award to their new players after the offseason draft is complete
  • Owners may allocate fewer than 75 total contract years to their team if they so choose
  • Contract lengths cannot be changed, even if the player is traded to a new team (also applies if a new owner takes over a team)
  • IR seasons count as a contract year
  • Trades in the middle of the season don’t have to comply with the 75 contract years max—teams will just have to ensure that they are at or below the threshold going into the next season

Initial Draft
  • Draft order determined at random and will snake back and forth thereafter
  • Rounds 1-18 will be one player/pick and rounds 19-22 will be two players/pick
  • Time Slots are as follows: Round 1 is off the clock, rounds 2-16 will be one hour slots, and round 17+ will be 30 minute slots
  • Owners may not pick ahead of their scheduled time unless all picks are current
  • Missed picks may be made up at any time

Future Drafts
  • Worst to first each round based on record at the 120 game mark
  • Tiebreakers will be as follows:
    1. Expected Winning Percentage
    2. Head to head among applicable teams
    3. Average run differential in games among the applicable teams
    4. Random draw
  • A first round lottery draw will be available for the four worst teams plus any ties
  • The lottery will be equally weighted among all the qualifying teams

Other Rules

Once a team drafts a ballpark, that effectively determines their franchise going forward. When their franchise changed ballparks in real life, the owner of that team is expected to change their ballpark as well. Teams may not change franchises once they have chosen their initial ballpark. The only exception to this rule is a new owner. A new owner may change their franchise provided they do so prior to their first season in the league.

New rules or rule changes may be proposed by any owner in the league. Adoption of a new rule or rule change will require a 2/3 majority vote (8 out of 12 owners). Any changes to the rules must be voted on and approved prior to the start of the offseason draft in order to be effective in the upcoming season. Otherwise, the new rule will become effective after the next season is complete.

Are trades illegal if they would take a team over 75 contract points?

Teams can be over the 75-point limit during the season. They just have to be at or below 75 coming out of the offseason process. This shouldn't be a problem as 25 contract points/team will drop from the roster each offseason.

Let me know if you have any other questions or if you're interested in signing up......

Interested, but still thinking about it. Is there an easy way to see everyone who is legal to pick in the drafts each year? The starting year seems easy but I’m not so sure about the other years…

Go to your draft center and search players from only 1905. Some of the names include Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Nap Lajoie, Cy Young, Christy Matthewson, etc. There should be around 30ish hall of famers from that year.

Future years you can search for only rookies. There is a “First/Last Season” search option. You could put 1906 to 1910 in the season and search “first season”. This would give you all rookies from 1906-10. Hope that helps.

Trying to figure out my draft chart is such a massive undertaking without cross season search tools. I feel I basically have to look at every player one at a time and try and figure out how they slot in with everyone else.
I think Ive figured out my top 3 picks after over an hour of investigation last night. It’s a lot of energy but it’s also super fun. If I have enough time to get my draft board in order I’ll sign up and figure out setting alarms to make picks.

If a player is traded do we have to take a full season version or can we take any version of them for that year?

Shoot...this sounds fun. Since Jeff and Creep are playing, I'll join too.

You take whatever season the person was using of that player. I don't think it's possible to change that out after the fact.....
