This link/bookmark no longer seems to work. Anyone have something current?

EDIT - odd, after the bump the link works again, just didn't within search results. OK, nothing to see here. Move along.

Interesting to look at after the last update. Seems like HR/AB have dropped from .040 to .031.

Just because this is related to something that was recently brought to my attention -

Date --------- HR/AB ------------ A/G Pitchers
11/9/09 ------ 0.040 ------------ 1.029
11/16/09----- 0.039 ------------ 0.984
11/23/09 ---- 0.038 ------------ 0.941
11/30/09 ---- 0.036 ------------ 0.901
12/7/09 ----- 0.035 ------------- 0.873
12/14/09 ---- 0.033 ------------- 0.846
12/21/09 ---- 0.032 ------------- 0.829
12/28/09 ---- 0.031 ------------- 0.815

Odd, no?

Even more interesting to note is that the HR/G hovers consistently around 2.8 until:
11/16/09 when it drops to 2.75
11/23 it's 2.67
11/30 it's 2.57
12/7 it's 2.46
12/14 it's 2.36
12/21 it's 2.27
12/28 it's 2.19

Seems like a very gradual, but extreme drop, doesn't it? 3/30/09 was the last time it wasn't in the 2.81-2.85 range, even then it was 2.79. It hadn't been below 2.77 all calendar year (2009). Interesting trend to say the least.

The HR drop is an intended consequence of the decrease in high-end HR (owners sacrificing D for bats could have multiple 50/60+ HR guys in the lineup, each of whom should be affected). It seems a bit extreme (nearly 25% of HR going away in 2 months?) but somewhat intended.

Why in the world that would lead to a 20% drop in pitcher assists is beyond me.

Also interesting to note that it had NEVER been below 2.678 at all. 10/13/08 it sat at 2.678 and it took 6 months for the average to go up to 2.76. In less than 2 months it has dropped from 2.75 to 2.19. That's an awful lot, in a short period of time considering the sheer amount of data being worked with. This is coming from someone who has no horse in the "screwing power teams" race at all. I (try to) build a rounded team, mostly around Pitching & Defense at the core.

Edit: I also realize that part of the shift could also be that players were adapting to the update and relying less on power. It's still a very dramatic decrease over a relatively short period of time.

Wouldn't it be because as worlds roll, the dampening effect on HRs spreads to a larger % of overall games, and the HRs/game drops to a new level?

This most recent update went live all at once (not as Worlds roll) so I don't think this explains the step-down progression that has occurred.

For whatever reason, more balls are being hit to the side of the field, rather than up the middle. Check out the difference, since the change, of the number of TC/G for CF, 2B, SS and P compared to the TC/G for 3B and LF.

More balls are being hit to LF (30% increase) and 3B (50% increase) than used to be. The days of hiding a poor fielder in LF may be over.

Also 1B A/G are up 20%. That may be a reflection of people simply playing better fielders at 1B now; or it may be because good 1B get to more balls after the update.
