Has anyone else noticed this does not seem to happen as much as it should?

I find it happens pretty often when I have speedy guys who are good at running the bases, havnt done any real digging though

actually it happens plenty when I have mediocre baserunners / speed guys too

I recently had a speedy guy not score from 2nd on a single and I thought it was weird. But that's just one anecdotal account, I don't know about any kind of trend.

I think that Tim McCarver would classify a runner scoring from second on a single as a "rally killer".

at least he's not clogging the bases tho

I have noted that a lot of players don't attempt to score all the time from 3rd on fly balls hit to the outfield and sometimes RC/LC. On shallow flyouts I can understand but on regular flyouts I don't think it makes much sense. I would say in real life on an average fly ball the runner on 3rd tags over 90% of the time unless it is against 1 of maybe 3 or 4 outfielders...Thoughts?

McCarver would say a runner scoring from second on a single results in more runs than a runner not scoring. Morgan would disagree.

I actually saw a guy steal home against me today.

What I absolutely CAN'T STAND are the unbelievably high number of runners thrown out at the plate, despite good 3B coaching and an average baserunning setting.

Of course, players occasionally get thrown out at home, but it seems like it happens 2-3-even 4 times a game. Stay at third if you're not going to make it!!!

It's obvious that a few guys in this forum miss FJM.

I think the problem with these speedy guys not scoring from 2nd is that their not consistently consistent in their approach to running the bases. But I can't really say for sure, since I haven't seem them play. Any way, the one thing I know for sure is that you can't expect to beat your opponents simply by outscoring them.

It looks to me like HBD might have slightly higher rates of OF assists than RL baseball. Here's the results of 10 minutes of analysis:

2009 MLB : 826 OF assists in 129816 player innings in the OF.

That's a rate of .0064 assists / outfielder inning.

I'm in Hamilton. We just finished up regular season 5. I pulled the data for the 75 outfielders with the most PT (25 at each position).. Those 75 players generated the following numbers:

602 assists in 85804 innings played

That's a rate of .0070 assists / outfielder innings.

That's about 10% higher than MLB, not a lot different, by my way of thinking. Moving beyond numbers to speculation, you might be able to argue that the other part time players who made up the other 35% of the OF playing time might be less skilled defensively and would generate a lower assist rate, that would tend to reduce this 10% difference even further. Don't know about that.... Also don't know anything about the choices of managers in baserunner aggressiveness. Is the average setting at 3, or higher. This would certainly influence that, but can't be studied directly

At that rate of .0070 assists / of inning *27 OF innings / game, we're talking about 0.189 assists per team per game, certainly not anything like "2-3 even 4 times a game".

Additionally, since HBD has more offense than MLB, you will see more opportunities for OF assists per inning played than in MLB (because of more baserunners, and more hits). That could account for most, if not all, of that difference.

I'm pretty sure I will always beat my opponent by outscoring him.
