Retiring then returning Topic

A couple months back I remember a vet posting on here that they sat out a couple seasons after coaching in D1 and CS made them go back to D3. Can't remember who the vet was, but others seemed to have similar experiences.

I just noticed the new coach of Rice in D1 Naismith last coached in D2...14 seasons ago. Did CS change that policy, or did the coach get lucky being able to move out after sitting for so long?

That was never the policy. DI coaches can come back as DI.

Sometimes that is not the case. If you have only spent 1 or 2 seasons in D1, retire, and then come back you may have to drop down to D2 due to loyalty conerns crap.

Which makes absolutely no sense to me.

I spent three seasons away after retiring from DI and was qualified only for DII and DIII jobs when I returned this season.

rep and loyalty at A+

Even though your loyalty said it was an A+, the fact that you only spent 3 seasons in D1 makes it hard for you to start back in D1. I have went over this with CS ad nauseum and I think it is another thing that they have wrong.

We could argue all day as to whether it is wrong or not, the fact is if you haven't had any success in your last 4 years at whatever school you are currently at you aren't going to be qualified for the same level school.

The coach I refer to never coached D1, only D2. But he was able to move up from D2 to D1 after a 14 season absence.

I coached at UAB(crum) for 2 seasons...now retired from that world..the last cycle of job openings I was only qualified for D@/3 jobs. I was only at D1 for 2 seasons there though

I'll throw my 2 cents in... Coached 6 seasons at D1... four with one team, two with another... retired and came back, only qualified for D3. Worse yet, my loyalty dropped to an F, so even after two decent seasons at D3 (NT bid and PI bid) I wasn't able to move up even to D2. After that I quit for good... wasn't pleased at all.

Not just loyalty, but also if you stunk in your last 3-4 seasons at DI (or if you only played a couple seasons there and you stunk), you likely won't be eligible for DI jobs. And I don't really have a problem with that.

cthomas, on the flipside, I'm sure the new coach at Rice had a very successful DII run when he previously coached.

I feel like all of that is wrong

1- You just need a season in D3 to be eligible for D2
2- Your loyalty/rep dont drop if you apply through new job changes

Am I wrong here?

Well, to clarify, I was offically eligible for d2 jobs... but with the F loyalty, I was shot down by even the lowest job possible. I was told that it was because I "" my previous school after 2 seasons, and would take several seasons to raise my loyalty back to the point where I could move up. This happened a few seasons ago in Allen, so I'm not sure if things have changed recently.

My experience was this...

UMBC (DI, Crum) for four seasons before finances took a hold for a season and I had to give them up. SIMAI controlled the team.

Finance stabilize and I am able to come back the next season...Notice I am qualified for lower tiered DI schools but not UMBC where I wanted to go back to.

Sent in ticket to CS who gave me the usual bull of loyalty and rep...Sent back that I am UMBC's most successful coach in history and would doubt very seriously that they would not take me back if this was real life...Next cycle, UMBC is available...But all tickets deleted
