recruiting class rankings? Topic

How exactly do they work? How, specifically, are the "points" calculated?

They are pretty much meaningless.
12/28/2009 1:11 AM
I gathered that, I'm just curious about the calculation.

I don't think anyone knows for sure. I have no idea for one. Seems to be based off of current ratings, since transfers and jucos seem to score really highly.

Yes, that's all we know for sure. Plus, walkons count as recruited freshmen. And, the more players you sign, the better your ranking.

Ah I didn't know that last part allblack, explains my failure to get a ranked class with 4 4-star recruits and 2 walkons last season. Thanks!

walk-ons suck so their point level I assume are extremely low, so just because you got the 2 walk-ons does not add much.

Also without actually looking at your recruits and everyone else I would maybe even assume that 2 walkons degrade your recruiting class? Its like practicing with 2 walkons makes your players improve slower from my knowledge.

yeah. I got into a big battle for my SF, and ended up spending over $60,000 on him and a couple intelligent C prestige schools spent ~$15-20k to grab 2 of the guys I had considering my B prestige school when I was out o cash.

Next year I will not be a desparate for any 1 position.

The walkons count as recruited players, thus lowering your overall score

How would one locate the raw data to figure this out?
12/28/2009 5:30 PM
There is no data available and even if there were it would do you no good because we don't know what values WIS uses to weight the data. There are some things that WIS keeps secret just like the Colonel's 11 herbs and spices or the recipe for Coke.

you could farm the data from the recruiting pool each year, and probably come up with the formula from there (if you can guess the form, such as, linear with respect to every rating, you can brute force the coefficients. a random factor, which i suspect is put in to most equations WIS use, complicates the issue, but i don't think a single random factor actually makes it significantly harder, computationally). as far as i can tell, there are no unknowns, unless iq matching your team is a factor (i highly doubt it).

How would one farm the data?
12/28/2009 10:20 PM
I'd be willing to be that there are no coefficients, just that there is some constant value subtracted from each value or some values that are not used-say durability or something....

you have to know how to program, or at least, have a working knowledge of a scripting language.
