from teal_leo:
Alright gents, after looking at the current rules I've predicted that we'll see 24 starting rotations with Greg Maddux. Bollocks to that. This league needs some variety. So for my rule I'm instituting a two round exclusive player draft. Standard serpentine variety (1-24, 24-1).

For those who aren't familiar with player exclusivity, it means when you draft a player (eg. Greg Maddux) you become the only team that can use him. He's off limits to the other 23 owners.

I've asked our fearless commissioner to assist with the running of the draft. He'll randomize the draft order to ensure it's on the up and up. Right now we're planning for a four day draft (12 picks a day). If that time frame is problematic for anyone, I'd be happy to adjust it.

Owners, begin your strategizing.

I knew my luck would be non-existant I guess we will see how round one works out

What about the players we MUST have on the roster, for example Babe Ruth as a pitcher? There are only 3 possible seasons to use. How do we avoid those three seasons being picked in the draft, making it impossible for everyone else to complete their team under the rules? I think the Ruth example is the one most likely to cause a problem, but others might arise.

I haven't been paying attention the last few days - just getting caught up. So, I'm just putting this out there and you guys tell me if it's off base.

In my limited WIS experience, I've found a draft works best if the first three rounds are a modified serpentine draft (1-24 / 24-1 / 24-1). This seems to be more fair to the players at the end of the draft and provides better parity (I believe TheJuice used to run his drafts this way).

[Disclaimer: I am near the middle of the bottom half of the draft, so it will have some effect on me, but more so for the people in the 20 and up draft slots.]

Would teal_leo be willing to change his rule to be a three-round modified draft? Does anybody else agree with me here?

A) Keep it as is.
B) Make it a 3-round modified snake draft.

I will go either way, just trying to make things fair across the board for everyone. Thanks!

I think a three round draft kills my chances at getting fair players
2/2/2010 2:49 PM
Two round is the way to go.
2/2/2010 2:54 PM
that'd be like asking me to change my rule to include torii hunter.
2/2/2010 2:56 PM
Can we get a little prep time for this? This isn't going to be a simple draft considering all the rules. I don't want to just do some half-assed winging on the picks.
