does using "No target/max" pitch count work well or is it better to set a limit?

It'll work fine.

But then again, it could lead to problems.

+1

You're basically trusting simmy to manage your staff when you do that. Simmy will not do as good of a job as an attentive owner will.

The most likely outcome of doing this for an extended period of time is that your staff will become fatigued and trashed.

Those pitchers who throw 150 pitches do take a week to recover.

I use no pitch count for a lot of my starters. But I use a pull rating of 4 for most of them. And you have to check in fairly often to shuffle guys around. And have a mop-up guy that you can give 6 or 7 starts to during the year.

I like it though.

i may be way off base, but i am pretty conservative with pitch targets and max pitch counts in fear of injury and fatigue. i thought i read somewhere that there was a formula to determine appropriate pitch counts depending on stamina, does anyone know of this?

That would be the "Show Recs" button on the Edit Player Settings page. Then adjust up or down as needed according to your observations.

I don't remember which thread this was from but this may help:

Rough estimates for IP by a pitcher [(DUR/100)*150]*(STA/13.5)

You can then multiply by 15 for an idea of pitch count.

I use conservative estimates for my pitchers and have never had fatigue problems since doing so. Use high pitch counts at your own risk...
4/29/2010 6:45 PM
(DUR/100)*150*]*(STA/13.5)

=(DUR*1.5)*(STA/13.5)

dont know why I felt the need to simplify the formula.
4/29/2010 7:09 PM
And I have no idea what that formula is calculating.

It's been awhile since my algebra days, but couldn't that be condensed a bit further to:

(Dur*Sta)/9

(whatever it calculates?) ;)

multiplying X 15, I think that formula calculates the pitch count of a 100 stamina, 100 durability pitcher as 16666.67

The first 2, not yours dwoolery.
