Miss St? They deserve to be out... Topic

Quote: Originally posted by colonels19 on 3/14/2010Minnesota making the tournament is a joke...especially over a team like Mississippi State who lost their CT final by 1 in overtime to a better team (Kentucky) than Minnesota getting killed by Ohio State in the Big Ten final...not sure how MN made it over MSU...what a joke.

How in the world can you make a view that Mississippi State should be in the tourney?

Miss St (23-11):
Wins vs top 50 RPI: Old Dominion (27), Vanderbilt (26)
Losses vs sub 100 RPI: Rider (139), West Kentucky (132), Alabama (102), Arkansas (159), Auburn (153)

Minnesota (21-13):
Wins vs Top 50 RPI: Butler (12), Ohio State (22), Wisconsin (21), Michigan State (28), Purdue (16)
Losses vs sub 100 RPI: Indiana (222), Michigan (131), Northwestern (116), Michigan (131)

Miss St: 2 Key Wins, 5 Bad losses
Minn: 5 Key Wins, 4 Bad losses

So tell me who deserves to be in? Besides isn't the SEC a second rate Basketball Conference now?

1) ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12 (4/5+ Bids Each Year)
2) Mountain West, A-10, SEC, Pac 10 (2-3 Bids each year maybe 4 Bids)
3) CUSA, WAC, WCC (1-3 Bids)

That seems to be the conference tiers in my head.

Make a case for UTEP over Mississippi State.

Off Topic... As a fan of West Coast bball I never thought I'd see the day where WCC and Pac 10 both have 2 teams in with the WCC having a bit better seeding.

UTEP to the Elite 8.

I don't see how anyone can say any of the picks were absolute jokes. The committee did a really good job this year, given the fact that there were only a handful of truly deserving teams and then dozens of above avg teams that all looked the same.

Florida should not be in.

College basketball was so completely rife with mediocrity this year that any team who didn't make it has nobody to blame but themselves. Mississippi State is exhibit A., B., and C., of a team that can't complain about missing the tournament because, ahem, YOU LOST AT HOME TO RIDER.

Dayton would have a better claim than Miss. State.

Dayton (20-12) 33 SOS:
Wins vs top 50 RPI: Xavier (19), Old Dominion (27), Georgia Tech (33)
Losses vs sub 100 RPI: Duquesne (114), Saint Josephs (184)

8 of 12 losses to top 40 RPI teams by a combined 37 points.

I know, I know...don't tell us about your rankings...but I have Mississippi State 53rd and Minnesota 64th....neither would have likely made it if my rankings were in place, but you also conveniently out the fact that MSU had/has a better RPI than Minnesota as well.

Given Minnesota's final performance, a 29 point loss to Ohio State, I'm shocked as hell that they got in...it seems that the committee had its mind made up before the game ended, and that's a problem within the committee IMO. Mississippi State the better lasting impression, and that should have counted for something.

The field was filled on Saturday night, and Sunday's results only impacted seeding. FYI.

We're really arguing semantics here because you're talking about two complete suckbags.

Perhaps something very, very small. But obviously not enough to trump a better overall resume.
