Lehigh over Kansas Topic

From a Yahoo Story

Five years ago, Bucknell pulled one of the biggest first round upsets in NCAA tournament history, stunning No. 3 seed Kansas. Nobody expected the top-seeded Jayhawks to experience a similar fate this year. However, there are some portentous signs suggesting that if a 16/1 upset is ever to occur, this could be the year.

Via Bison137 on the Lehigh Sports Message Board, here are eight eerie similarities between that Kansas-Bucknell game and the forthcoming Kansas-Lehigh tilt:

1. 2005: Kansas played the Patriot League champion. 2010: Kansas to play the Patriot League champion.

2. 2005: Kansas began the year ranked No. 1. 2010: Kansas began the year ranked No. 1.

3. 2005: Kansas enters the tournament ranked No. 1 in the RPI. 2010: Kansas enters the tournament ranked No. 1 in the RPI.

4. 2005: Kansas felt they got shafted by committee in seeding (KU was a No. 3 seed.) 2010: Kansas feels they got shafted by committee by getting placed in a group of death, despite having the top overall seed. (Thanks to commenter Duncan H for that one.)

5. 2005: Game played on March 18. 2010: Game to be played on March 18.

6. 2005: Game played at Ford Center in Oklahoma City. 2010: Game to be played at Ford Center in Oklahoma City.

7. 2005: Game was late game of evening session. 2010: Game to be late game of evening session.

8. 2005: Northern Iowa played in the other game of the evening session. 2010: Northern Iowa will play in the other game of the evening session.

A No. 16 seed is eventually going to defeat a No. 1 seed and, obviously, it will come totally out of the blue. Will Lehigh do the deed on Thursday? It almost certainly won't. But if the Mountain Hawks pull the shocker, don't say you weren't warned. The fates have it all lined up.

Duke is the most likely 1 seed to lose. Not just because they are clearly the 4th best 1 seed but because they rely totally on 3 players to do all their scoring. If 1 or 2 has an off game and a great defensive job is done on the other then Duke could go down. I see no way KU loses, they have too much talent and have a real PG and a 7 footer who is a lottery pick.

If Kansas loses is it because the RNG is jacked?

I agree km...just thought the coincidences were very interesting

Nice coincidences but I think this Kansas team is insanely different. Those are 8 crazy similarties though.

Speculating about a 1/16 upset is fine, but for the love of god do not pick one in your bracket pool. Hedge at least a little bit and have your 1 seeds losing in the 2nd round if you must, but the risk/reward for that pick is terrible.

Are you high? If someone is gonna beat Kansas, its going to be Northern Iowa or Michigan State, FFS

If Kansas loses, it's OBVIOUSLY because Lehigh runs a slowdown -5. Duh.

You forgot about the press.

Very interesting. But just eyebrow-raising at best here. I can't wait for the day that a 16 beats a 1, maybe... just maybe the Jayhawks will overlook this Lehigh game.

IF Kansas does lose, there will be a whole boat load of ****** off office poolers.

dude. f kansas. those %!#$ !%@#%$s blew my bracket like 4 straight years. i kept picking them to, you know, not lose as a 3 or 4 seed in the first round (actually i picked them to win more than expected in both cases, i think). but they kept... well, you know the rest.

Kansas is favored by the largest margin of any team in the first round.

KU is picked to win by 26 with Kentucky close behind at 20.

Not gonna happen.
