new engine - opinions welcome Topic

will be interesting to know of the testers how much they changed (or felt they had to change strategy for the new engine) - I went 17-15 or something like that my first season, then 24-8, and now this season I am 5-0, I am playing much differently in the test engine than I am in the current engine. I wonder how much other testers had to change?

I found the whole testing experience underwhelming, I really had very little idea what was going on. Sometimes I'd log on and find 5 games had simmed, other times I would not see any changes for a week. I did not find the test forum to be near as active as I would have hoped, or near as constructive, but seems like the job got done reasonably well - but the new engine will be different and will take time to adjust to.

Overall, I just caution coaches to give things a chance, I would suspect the first few months are going to be VERY challenging for the masses. Also, some coaches are big time 'flamers', would be nice if they allowed the complainers time to adjust, as this is going to be a very difficult time anyhow, without coaches squabling among each other thereby deflecting the focus on the issues that will need facing up to.

Good luck to everyone

I was in d2 and didnt change anything. I made deep runs in the nt both seasons. I found recruiting to be way easier though. I am in hawaii and had not problems in getting anyone. In fact I had I believe 6K in d2 hawaii this season alone? I pretty much set it and forgot it for gameplay.

I second the thought that it was underwhelming.

i didn't realize the first season was starting, and after 17 games, we were doing pretty well, so i figured what the hell, may as well take a crack at it. it was man to man, which i am not great with but certainly competent. next time i checked, nothing had happened, and the time after, i saw we lost in the title game. i am guessing it is because other people were screwing around but it definitely wasn't a team i would expect to make it that far in the real world. but, it kind of demonstrated to me that if that team could do so well, with me only setting it once and forgetting, with a system i am not good with... that the actual sim engine didn't change much. sadly, i haven't paid attention yet so i have no idea if that's true.

at first, recruits were massively different, i was worried (like you) that HD as we know it was about to end. but now it seems like not that much has changed. definitely some new types of players, which should be fun, but its not like the overall talent level changed drastically. all in all, i am eager to try the changes for real, but i am not really expecting it to be drastically different. guess i should have paid attention to the beta, huh :)

Well, Gill - one thing to say is that in real life there will be more people gameplanning all around, which will make that part different from the test. And there have been many modifications and changes since the first season.

I'm happy about the new, more varied recruits. I'm very worried about the sim engine.

OR is right, the testing process was not smooth at all. Lots of starts and stops, nothing consistent. As a result, a lot of people grew disinterested and faded away (myself included for stretches), and I worry that they didn't get input from enough people (and also enough input from the right people).

It's not an encouraging sign that OR, gil and myself, who are all extremely active vets, all checked out of the beta for long stretches. I know all three of us had issues with varying levels of interest and/or work demands lately, but still not a good sign.

I'm very hopeful, but very worried about the sim engine.

I don't think there needed to be any major changes just some tweaks here and there. So guys saying there wasn't too big of a difference is pretty encouraging IMO.

I agree with you on all of this-- I missed, essentially, the entire second season after recruiting. And whatever has happened since then.

I'm really worried about durability. I know they warned us, but so many recruits had poor durability ratings and the release kept getting delayed, so I didn't recruit for it.

Hoping my whole satrting line-up doesn't get injured or something ridiculous like that.

It also didn't seem they ever fixed the A/T ratio problem, which IMO was one of the biggest problems with box scores, so I'm really disappointed in that.

i did do stuff in the beta, -- its way to early imo to put this stuff into the real game, -- i felt i had a major disadvantage on away games. -- will def change the way scheduling is done imo. i was hoping the beta would last longer than that.

honestly im conisdering not renewing after this coming seasons on all my teams untill i find word that its working well.

UM. .they didn't change the home Vs away stuff I don't believe.

And the assists are definitely averaging higher. And the turnovers are about where they should be based on RL. . so. . .

There are some great changes but I feel it's too quick to release the new engine. There are some minor things that still need to be fixed but they won't be fixed quickly.

I am also weary of the new engine frustrating people more then they already are.

I find that the SIMs (at least in D3) shoot considerably more 3's than in the current engine.

I haven't noticed any real difference in gameplanning...not sure if that's good or bad actually.

And reading the new pbp text will take a little getting used to after so long seeing it the original way. But I've yet to see a great no-look pass...

As to my earlier post(A_in_the_b) They did up the percentage of assists. Not everything that was done in there is listed on that post.
