This has been brought up for a while. Once in the Beta, and now again in the suggestions. Does anyone other then me think this would be a great idea, and should be released sooner rather then later? I think/hope its just because he doesn't think many would like it and so he isn't pushing hard to do it, but he is open for it.

+1 already in the suggestion forum, but I'll +1 it here too.

I don't see any reason not to.

I put this in the suggestions but I'll put it here as well: combine this with the diamond in the rough and the game gets  whole lot better.

Not sure I like the idea. I like the strategy involved in how one decides to spend their recruiting dollars. I think it adds a nice element.

You'll still have to have a strategy, but it will be something like: "should I recruit the guy with 5 high potentials and 5 low potentials or the guy with average potential accross the board?"

instead of:

"should I spend money one state X and risk there not being a single recruitable player in the entire state?" (thanks to Rails for the quotes)

Get rid of FSS at the DIII level only. It's a strategy to the game that should be a part of your expertise in DII and DI.

FSS and potential go together

I coach at University of Puerto Rico Bayamon in Tark world and there is no FSS even though it's part of the U.S. I'd sure like to see that changed.

In the BETA world we recruited without having to use FSS. We could see the potentials of everyone.

i think it will make the rich even richer because they will be sure to gobble up the best players. Right now, some of those players spli through the cracks for one reason or another. That is much less likely to happen if this change is made.

(Not biased as this comment coming from a coach with 2 A+ programs)

I agree with Mully.  As it is, we can't scout every state to see potentials and are therefore restricted in who we recruit.  It allows other lower prestige teams to catch up quicker.  Like grecianfox said, it adds strategy to the game.

I also agree that we should have some means to scout Puerto Rico at the least and perhaps some of the international players as well without having to spend $700 to get 4 categories that may not be the info you want (like a recruit is a mediocre student).

i don't like it this idea either.  i tend to spend a lot on FSS and i am extremely selective with whom I target, especially at DII & DIII.  i like the fact that I have more information about a players skills than other coaches because I choose to spend a lot scouting.

also, as someone who likes teams in the middle of nowhere (Alaska and Pacific Northwest w/ a couple of my teams), making FSS free would really hurt these teams.  currently i can recruit very smartly and overcome the distance disadvantage through scouting.  if FSS were free, teams with fewer recruits in their area would really be at a disadvantage.

I'm with mully... no FSS at all at DIII, but keep it the same at DII and DI.

I just don't like how much luck is involved. I've had seasons where I pick 1-2 states and could fill 6 players worth. Other seasons I need to scout 8 or more states just to find 2 guys. Half the coaches I can't see how tight they are with recruits because I can't afford to buy most the states. Having more recruits who are recruitable as well as more information from FSS with the tight etc thing would make for more battles, IMO. A guy who is 300 miles from me I'd battle for if he was worth it, but there is a good chance he winds up in a state I don't scout.

Keep FSS as it is.  I agree it allows players to slip through. For the most part, I've never had problems paying for FSS at DIII and still being competitive in recruiting, just spend wisely.
