Minor league minimum roster size Topic

Can we get something in place that will start the automation of signing minor league turds (like the rookie league does if you have under 28) if levels Low A through AAA are under 25 men by the end of spring training?

I get a little sick of seeing rosters with next to nothing on it because someone wants to use the extra $100K to sign an FA.

If I had my way, the AI logic would work like such;

-promote current minor leaguers on the roster so that they fill AAA to 25, then AA, etc etc
-auto sign players in minor league FA until full
-if not full, auto sign the tryout camp turds until full

If this puts someone over budget
-auto transfer from prospect to payroll

If there's no or insuffiecent prospect budger to transfer
-auto release the lowest salaried ML player that would get the budget under cap

Releasing guys does not clear salary.

Listen to what I mean, not what I say.

They become FAs and are dropped from the books. Feel free to fill in with a better idea.

Wouldn't it automatically be a 327k player?  Wouldn't it be fantastic to lose your stud rookie so you could get a 8k tryout camp pitcher to replace him so your LoA team will have 15 pitchers?

Yeah, I can't see any downside to this idea.

FWIW, I don't have a problem forcing owners to have 25 players at each level.   But, rather than release stud rookies, wouldn't it just be better to restrict moves for all levels until your moves = 25 at each minor league level?

Naw. I want the hammer. HGWHD.

But if I can't have the hammer, I'd cave in to that.

It seems to be the point is to force owners to comply with your minor league standards(even though they can completely fill out the minor league rosters and finish 1-143).    Your suggestion would lead some owners to say "F this" and drop the team or, maybe, HBD as a hobby.

You cannot FORCE people to do things they don't want to do.  That's just not going to fly.

The best approach is to provide tangible incentives to do things like maintain minor league rosters, etc. in such a way that it doesn't bring along a negative side effect.  The hard part is coming up with something that cannot be exploited at the expense of also being competitive at the major league level.

You actually can.  I just tried to designate a player in Coop in order to send him down.   Nope.   Got this message:  You have too few players on the Big League roster.

Are you implying that the same couldn't be done in the minors?

No.  I actually like your suggestion.  That's already in place with a minimum roster size of 20 at all minor league levels except for RL, and after the draft it's also in place for RL.  Seems simple enough to tweak it up to 25, or add a little more logic to make you have a minimum of "x" number of pitchers before you can make other moves.

My "You cannot FORCE . . . " response was more directed to DIAH's comment about the hammer, and auto-releasing players, etc.

It would have to be kept at 20 through spring training, and then only kicked to 25 when the regular season starts.  Often, it's difficult to ensure even 20 during spring training due to cuts, retirements, etc..

And we STILL don't have a tryout camp of position players.

We shouldn't need them.  SIGN YOUR DRAFT PICKS.

I don't feel like giving signing bonuses to guys whose skills barely exceed MINE.  Geez, take a look at your hitting/fielding ratings for your 16-20 round picks.  They're barely little league level (or Brooks Conrad level).  Realistically, they need to bump up the level of the worst draft picks to where they would at least approximate good high school players.

Right now the draft eligible players go from ML All Stars (1st round) to ML roster filler (2nd-4th round), AA-AAAA (5-8th round), rookie ball-A (9-12th round), to utter **** in pretty much everything past that.  There should be a pool of undrafted, reasonably talented, but flawed ballplayers that could fill a roster more effectively than a hitter with 15/10/6/8/20 hitting ratings.

OK, then you may continue to cry about a lack of training camp position players.

Seriously, it will cost you about 190k to sign slot guys from 16-25.

What if, say, you draft 25 pitchers? I'm not saying that I've done this after my formula backfired, or anything...
