STEINBRENNER MEMORIAL LEAGUE 2: FILLED! Topic

If all goes well, this will be the second part of a trilogy.

League #MLB92707.

I have gotten the go-ahead from ConansDad who ran the first league to start this one. The difference is this has the just-missed Yankees teams, that is, those who finished 2nd in the pre-wild-card era or lost in the ALDS or the ALCS (excluding 2004 which was already used in SML 1). 120M cap, no WW, no AAA, no clones, no trades. Twisting is OK for any player who played at least 1 game for the team in that season according to baseball-reference.com. Include real team names (or variation thereof) and year in your team name. Home park must be used for every club. This means Shea for the 1974 Yanks and Yankee Stadium III for the 2010 Yanks. The other Yankee teams will use Yankee Stadium II.

40-game Live minimum to qualify for postseason, like in SML 1. All postseason games must be played Live.

Obviously if you are a Yankees fan, you will want to join, but its haters have the opportunity to take the one team in each season that beat out the Yankees, so this league is for them as well. I will pick 7th in each league.

Bold means the team is taken.

Yanks teams: 1974, 1980, 1985, 1986, 1993, 1995, 1997, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010.

Rival teams: 1974 Orioles, 1980 Royals, 1985 Blue Jays, 1986 Red Sox, 1993 Blue Jays, 1995 Mariners, 1997 Indians, 2002 Angels, 2005 Angels, 2006 Tigers, 2007 Indians, 2010 Rangers.

Alignment will be cross-chronological, that is: 74, 86, 97, and 06 in the East; 80, 93, 02, and 07 in the Central, and 85, 95, 05, and 10 in the West in each league.

You may own 2 teams, but only if one is Yanks and one is not Yanks.

REVISED: Please vote whether you want DH or no DH. One vote per team, so if you have 2 teams, you get 2 votes. The totals will be counted according to each league, so it will still be possible to have one league with a DH and the other without. This also means if you have 2 teams, you can vote differently for each league. I won't vote and can't tiebreak since there are 11 other teams besides mine which means a majority will prevail once everyone votes.

UPDATE: DH for both leagues unanimously voted in to clinch majorities, so this is an all-DH league.

Also, put the year or at least its last 2 digits somewhere in your team's name if you are a Yankees team or a rival franchise that is represented by more than one season.

I vote for the dh since it's an AL league
10/16/2010 9:49 PM
OK, JKorn, and I will re-revise that to have the votes go according to each league, which will mean I can't tiebreak since there will be 11 other teams in each league not counting myself. So if it were 6-5 for the DH in the Yanks league and 7-4 against in the rivals league, that's how it will go. I don't need to repeat the pros and cons of DH or no DH since we have all followed the sport for years.

I'll take the 1980 NYY's- John, Guidry, May, Tiant as SP's. Nice bats in Jackson, Nettles, Watson, Piniella, Murcer, Oates, Soderholm, Randolph ... the hole will be at SS (Dent/Stanley ... good gloves) ... I vote for DH for this AL league ... at 120M, everybody should be able to get a decent one! ...
