Recruiting for press? Topic

I have run press teams most of the time and usually heavy guard oriented.
I need to go after some PF, C types.
What traits are more important: speed, athleticism, rebounding, defense? In that order??
What would be the tradeoff for a good low post presence?

Speed and Athleticism are #1 and #2 to me. For PF/C, I set the search filter at 20 for Speed. Sometimes I have to go lower but 20+ is always the goal. I do the same for Defense but of course higher is always better. If there has to be a tradeoff, I would take Spd/Ath over Rebounding.

ath/spd matters so much for press. If you don't have ath/spd advantage, it seems to me that you can't force the T/Os. If you can't force T/Os, putting ur opp to the ft line via fouls ,and giving up some easy buckets in busted press plays, you will be a sub .500 team.

And maybe it's just me, but players with high ath/spd can score even with low per/lp. This guy is my example:

26 LP,14 per, shooting .580 from the field and 12ppg.

Washburn in DII Wooden http://whatifsports.com/hd/TeamProfile/Ratings.aspx?tid=3622 has won 2 National Titles with a press and he never practices defense. Ath and SPD are key

well, he has A's up and down his defensive IQs, so this doesn't seem to be the case at all

I think he means defense as in the rating, not the IQ...

Players have improvement on their D ratings as well, so he is practicing footwork, but the point is made: ATH and SPD are key.  As an A+ prestige press coach, athleticism is the absolutely most important rating when it comes to bigs.  For the guards, you can get away with higher ATH than SPD, but make sure the SPD is at least respectable (nothing starting below 50 at DII).

defense is pretty important in the press today, a lot more important than it was, i would definitely consider putting it ahead of spd for bigs and ath for guards. although ath seems more important for guard scoring now so maybe not. but i would at least have to think about it.

Don't forget stamina in the press.  You really want guys who are going to get over 80, as the press really wears you out and right now the engine is very hard on tired players.

My teams with Press that are fast and athletic have been severely underperforming when they don't have huge stamina.
Since the update, the press has been useless if you don't have >80 stamina ratings. Stamina is now AT LEAST AS important as athleticism and speed in the press.

I'm with naturo -- that's what I was trying to say.

It's actually quite frustrating how they've made the new engine so hard on tired players. If they were going to change it that way, they should be giving more options for recruits with higher stamina, or at least let stamina increase quicker in young players. Maybe this would solve some of the new problems with the press ... unless they are intentionally trying to lure coaches away from using the press as they have mentioned wanting to eradicate it as well as fastbreak from team sets.
