How much stock do you put in catcher range and glove? I think arm strength, arm accuracy, and pitch calling are important...but would a catcher range of 2 and glove of 30 be a huge hinderence if he is a ++ offensive player?

throughout a season, how many would I expect? I have a promising prospect in my system with proj 79-75-98-60-90 offensive ratings. Would that offensive ability be better than having a solid D catcher with 50-50-50-50-50 offensive ratings?

Depends on the rest of your lineup, really.  Do you need that bat?

I can't say I've ever looked at a catcher's range/glove when determing if he's good enough to play C.   And I'm better at HBD than tec.

A 2/22 had 16 in 111 games in Hamilton.  An 11/33 had 6 in 119 games.   Do the math.

Ok, I say this as a guy that builds pitching that's usually top 3 in the league and hitting that's usually bottom 5.

If you can get a catcher that has arm accuracy and strength 75 or more and pitch calling over 90, that will make a difference of .5 to .75 points of ERA over the listed recs (depending on the park; lower end for a pitcher's park, higher end for a hitter's park)

Generally, that will overcome just about any reasonable hitting or glove difficency unless he's truly horrid (ie. under the Mendoza line and/or 15 PBs a year). Think it in reverse; that's 80-120 runs saved a year, and not many catchers can generate that in offense.

Catcher ERA under 3, throws out 30% of attempted steals, Gold Glove catcher for season 17. But had to be that over the top defensive good to justify in my head the .199 average.

Would he still be worth it with an extra 10 passed balls? I don't know.

I tend to build opposite my park's specifications...if I am in a pitcher's park Iknow I can put up solid numbers with only slightly above average pitchers, but I need big time offensive players to score runs...whereas in a hitter's park, I can score easily but need big time pitchers to hold my opponents off the board.

I have a picher who has a 0 for range and 34 for glove. I the minors he has 5,562 innings wth 38 PB's. At the Ml level he has 2,268 innings with 11 passed balls. I have compared him to guys with much better numbers and I have seen no big difference.
