Never made the Dance or the PIT Topic

I got curious/bored (I'm done recruiting, you can tell...) and peeked to see if there were any schools in my worlds that had never been to either the national championship tournament or the PIT. So, if you're looking to make history and get a gymnasium named after you or something, here's where you want to coach and succeed...

Naismith (entering Season 51)
D1-- Southern Utah
D2-- St. Anselm
D3-- Olivet

Tarkanian (entering Season 56)
D1-- Birmingham Southern
D2-- Mt. Olive
D3--Waynesburg, Wisconsin-Eau Claire

If someone wants to post the other worlds, the lists don't appear to be that long and it didn't take much time. Just hit the school records tab, then sort by National Tourney bids...scroll down to the few that have 0's and pull up those team pages (fewer than 10 in most cases) and search the history.

IBA (season 49)

D1- Florida A&M
D2- W.Alabama
D3- Linfield, Haverford

Crum (season 45)

D1- N. Iowa
D2- N. Carolina Central
D3- Randolph-Macon
4/9/2011 11:08 PM
Smith (midway through Season 50)
D1 - San Diego, Birmingham-Southern (also interesting is that D1 Lamar is one of the top 10 losingest teams in Smith DI, but they also have a national championship under their belt)
D2 - None
D3 - Kalamazoo, Clark (also interesting that Washington and Lee has only made the postseason once [the PIT], and in that one showing, they managed to win the PIT championship)

Phelan
D1-Tennessee-Martin, UAB, UNC-Wilmington, Richmond, Wright St, San Diego (German for a whale's va....), Idaho, W Kentucky, Radford, Delaware
D2-61 with no NT appearances, not going to look through all of them
D3-55 with no NT appearances. Not that dedicated to check them all

Knight and Phelan have a ton because they are only in season 36

Yeah I gave up when I started looking in Knight D1

Wooden:
D1- Southern Utah- They win the Governor's Trophy for being shut out in both Naismith and Wooden, the first 2 worlds.

D2- a special shout-out to Newberry, who has one NT and one PIT. They have an all-time winning % of .285.   Over a 26-year period, they averaged 4.8 wins/season.   They're in my conference and I'm 79-1 all-time vs. them and had a 60-game winning streak.

Rupp:
D2- Missouri Southern
D3- Emory & Henry
       SUNY-Pottsdam
       Concordia (WI)
       Earlham

************
a funny aside:  North Park won the very first NT in Naismith.  When Wooden opened, they also won that NT.  One noticably upset coach speculated that the developer was a North Park alum and skewed the game so they would win.

I almost had a magical run to the dance with that WI-Eau Claire team...had 10 'ships...filled em all but only took the team so I could cheat with FSS...lost in the CTC game...man that was tough

D2:

Goldey-Beacom, SE Oklahoma State

D3:

Buena Vista,

Since we're adding quirky facts, I'll toss in that St. Anselm in Naismith has had exactly one winning season in its first half-century of play, going 16-12 on that epic campaign.

How about we add the worst overall record by a team that has a title on its resume?

You admit to cheating?  I wish more coaches would admit it.  Every year in my conference we get one new coach who never speaks and doesn't bother to coach the team, maybe or maybe doesn't recruit.  I never know if that is just somebody who is accepted a free/discount season and never got involved or if it is front for some cheater.  It's a shame, because I work hard to stretch my budget and accept the consequences of my mistakes.  I work within the limits of the game, and yet there are those who cheat at it.  What a shame. What a hollow way to compete.
