Just posted this at work so I didn't have time to write anything with it. I think the numbers speak for themselves

I've told Jones this, but I've never seen a D3 conference perform like ours has. I've seen BCS conferences like this but in D3 it's so hard to do. It's fun being apart of it.

Lets compare this conf rpi at season end to wooden d3 upstate at the end of the year.  Id like to see the diff

I've been tracking the two all season and we've been pretty far ahead at each point. Right now since we're in a 2 a day world we're much further along in the season so we'll be done a couple weeks before Wooden. Even at this point with Knight being done with the CT our .6262 RPI is above the Upstate's of .6201 and there's will continue to drop until postseason play begins. Alblack posted in the RPI thread about 2 conferences in Smith in believe that were doing really well I'd be interested in knowing where they are now.

Of course the RPI means nothing if we don't back it up in the NT, although I can't remember a season where we had a bad posteason. I remember 1 season where we only sent 4 teams to the NT and all 4 made the Elite 8, last season we made over 70k, it just seems nobody ever gets upset and the rare occasion it does happen we have another team pull off an upset of cancel it out.

depth of world is a huge factor.  if the world is weak its easy to stand out.

not knocking knight (as i have no clue what the quality of the competition is) but its something to look at before the So Cal starts comparing itself to the Upstate (wooden) and Capital (naismith)

I'll say it right now. We're comparing it to everyone.

I think D3 Knight is pretty solid, D2 Knight is a different story.

I have no idea about the overall quality of Knight D3 (there are at least a few more good, human conferences, one in the midwest and one in the south I think?), but the bottomline is the quality of the coaches. There are multiple guys with a tremendous amount of success at at least D2, sometimes D1 (in recent memory, off the top of my head: chisox won a D2 crown in tark a season ago, kmason has won a few, duke just won a D3 title last year, I think by now I need two hands to fit my rangz). There will never be a season where I'm not in the top 10 RPI, rarely is there a season where kmason/duke aren't in the top 10 RPI, and some of the other coaches (ship, bow, bills) just churn out great recruiting class after great recruiting class. I'm sure this season was a culmination of good timing (although CMHMS will be better next year), but the success, because of the high quality recruits targetted, should be sustainable.

After further review, there are 40 seniors in the conference. I'd guess at least a handful of them are worthless 1 year players that were picked up just to roll over recruiting money. So, we're looking at about 3.33 seniors per team, which seems to be just above "average" (assuming "average" is 3, which it probably isn't, given that guys recruit transfers and jucos all the time and given that walkons are freshman, I'd imagine seniors and freshman are the two biggest classes usually).

and pinkeye has won at least 2 D2 titles in the last 5 seasons in Iba

"some of the other coaches (ship, bow, bills) just churn out great recruiting class after great recruiting class"

I'm not sure if I should take that as a compliment to my recruiting abilities or knocking my coaching ability lol

at least we don't suck at both of them :D
