Dumbest Move You've Ever Made Topic

I recently forgot to re-sign my coaches in one of my worlds and was forced to hire an entirely new coaching staff on every level. Not fun. Just curious what other stupid moves other veteran GM's have made. Failing to protect a stud prospect in the Rule 5, forgetting to re-sign a player during the season who then leaves via FA, reading this post, etc. The more specific the better.

First crack at the Formula Editor for the draft, set the position to "Any", got 25 pitchers.

I forgot to make the playoffs in 30 of my 54 seasons.  I forgot to win the WS in the other 24.

Never really made an "OH CRAP!" move, at least not that I can remember.  A few FA signings that I came to regret, but nothing major.  But my biggest fear is forgetting to protect somebody in R5.  Haven't done it yet, but I always get a little panicky as R5 day approaches.

This was an awful trade I made in one of my first seasons, when I had no idea what value was:

I got:  Ron Buford +$5M Cash
He got: Wally Post, Sidney Dixon & Larry Finley

At the beginning of Season 8.

I even had another owner TC me to ask if I was sure I wanted to do that or if he should veto... I told him I thought it was a decent trade

Yeah, my worst was a Rule V - let a former first round pick go, and it wasn't that I even forgot about it entirely, I set him up to be protected but then didn't submit the transaction, so it was still sitting there when the roster freeze occurred.    I wound up fleecing the guy who drafted him in a trade to get him back, and he didn't wind up being all that special anyhow (pretty sure I released him in his 3rd arb year because he wasn't worth that kind of contract), but still a pretty dumb move.

Arbing star players a third time is my typical dumbass move.  I sometimes have to be away from the web for weeks at a time, so I get my bother to run things while I'm away.  A couple of times I've told him to "arb them all", when I've had a Cy Young/MVP candidate in there for his third arb

In my very first HBD season, I moved out a potential future HOF SP to the eventual WS winner for table scraps.  He went on to win the first 3 in that world (including beating me in Season 2), with my SP playing a prominent role.

EDIT: This was at the trading deadline, and I was not in contention.

Really? I would have went with "Season 19, Happy Jack"

When someone has won twice as many WS as you have divisions, you STFU and be gracious they even let you into their world.

A re-enactment of iain's trade:

iain is playing the part of Pinky.

He seems to be enjoying it.

Well, he sure doesn't seem to mind.

In my first season I paid a $4.5M for an IFA whose control and splits peaked at 28/44/54. More recently I've forgotten to re-sign a pitcher when I had the chance, and the next year he left in free agency. At least I got a couple draft picks.

I let cbriese in as a replacement owner in MG and he started crying about the world chat.   To ADMIN.  Then ADMIN refused to remove him in season despite the fact that he was being far more disruptive to the world as a goddam REPLACEMENT OWNER!!!    Easily the dumbest move I've ever made.
