If you examine any religions stories they sound odd unless you are used to them and grew up hearing them  over and over. The idea that any major religion in the modern world is actually a cult seems like a common bias against anyone that isnt the main religion.

Why is that better than a Virgin Birth or you can eat an animal with a cloven hoof?

The stories are all a bit on the weird side.

You either believe or you dont.

Saying that our weird stories are ok, but their weird stories make them a cult seems like prejudice.

Yes, several religions have stories that seem silly. The prejudice you perceive comes from not being a Christian.

Here's the difference:

Mormons consider themselves Christians.
When looking at Christianity, we must use The Bible as the guiding principle.
Most Christian denominations have differences here and there, mostly interpretation issues and so forth. 

The Mormons, however, actually have a whole additional "Holy Book" called the Book of Mormon.
As one poster referenced, this was a book written in the 1800s and there are many many ideas or doctrines that are not in line with The Bible, and thus most Christians do not look favorably on the Mormons.

No.

Jews were "dumped on" because they refused Christ.
It was prophesied in the Old Testament that this would happen.
The Jews, having been the doormat of society everywhere they went, for such a long time, were looking for a savior that would be strong and mighty. One who would strike their enemies down. 
Jesus came and talked about "turning the other cheek" and "being the least" and "being a servant". 

This IS NOT what the Jews wanted to hear from their savior. What they fail to realize is the Mighty King, who will trample enemies underfoot, is the second coming of Jesus.

Catholics are on a whole different level.
They were, in fact, the ONLY Christian religion for over 1000 yrs. Notice the most common is called Roman Catholic.
This is due to the Romans being in control during the life of Christ, and also after his death and resurrection.
They saw the ferver of Christian believers and concluded that they could not eliminate it.
So they did the next best thing, control it and pervert it.

Eventually came the printing press and the ability to mass produce The Word of God in many different languages.
People could read it for themselves, and lo and behold many of the Catholic teachings were not in line with The Word of God. 
Enter the Protestant reformation.

I object to swamp being the voice of reason in this thread.
