I'd like to get some feedback on the issue of calling someone out in league chat, as opposed to trade chat.

I've had trades questioned (and bashed) before, often without even soliciting feedback, but lately when I've done it, I've been hammered by people for being immature and not doing it in private. Now, it could certainly be just because I'm good ol' JT, but I'd like to get some opinions.  In my view, if someone makes a comment on league chat, it's fair to call them out on league chat.

Recently, one guy put up one of his pitchers for trade with a message on league chat saying the pitcher was a "solid middle of the rotation starter" and he wanted a prospect in return who projected as an ML starter. The next day, that same owner thanked everyone for the interest in his pitcher, but stated his pitcher was now apparently a "proven top of the rotation starter" and would command 1st round talent or a high-priced IFA in return.

I asked him, on league chat, how his pitcher went from being a "solid middle of the rotation starter" one day, to a "proven top of the rotation starter" the next, and got bashed by several owners for not keeping it private.

So, thoughts on when it's okay to call someone out and when it's not?

Unless you were overly snide or a jerk or rude, you was wronged.

I don't feel I was a jerk, but as I said, it's quite possible past reputation bit me in the *** .

Generally speaking though, I've had it done to me many times, even without solicitation, so I'm not sure why people get so edgy about it, especially after they've made a dumb or contradictory claim on league chat.

FWIW, here was my response:

"Seems you're overrating a guy with a career WHIP of 1.33 and an ERA over 4. Not to mention that you earlier classified him as a 'solid middle of the rotation' starter and wanted one prospect for him - and now he's suddenly a top of the rotation starter worth plum 1st round talent or an IFA."

Seems harmless.  More often that not owners are wayyyy too proud of their garbage... I mean uh... players and try to land big stars in return.  Like when you see the post "Lousy dime a dozen LF with hitting splits in the low 60s making 3.7 million available... looking for prospects"  Yeah right pal.

The reason everyone came down on your is because you were trying to create drama out of nothing, which you are continuing to do by now taking it here to the forums.  Are you just bored, lonely, or immature?

Every world, and it's World Chat, has it's own "personality".  What may be perfectly acceptable on the WC in some worlds could be frowned upon in others.  You just need to understand the personality of each world your in, and try to conduct yourself appropriately or risk becoming a pariah in those more "sensitive" worlds.

Well I definitely have the pulse of this one now. I don't feel what I said was the least bit harsh or rude, but apparently these tender hearts saw otherwise.

yeah, some leagues have ******* in em. gotta stay quiet in those.

It's a public forum so who cares?   But, like tec said, some worlds prefer silence or the whining "Why is this guy hitting .212 after 27 AB?  He hit .357 last year!!!!" posts only.   Adapt.

The bottom line is that if the other owner is overvaluing his player and expecting too much in return, that's his problem.  No need to make it yours, especially if everybody else is getting their panties all bunched up over your comments.

IMO, any time you post a player as available in the world chat, you've made his ability public.   If someone wants to say he sucks and that bothers you, well, you should have put him on the trade block, checked the trade needs and sent appropriate trade chats.

FWIW, I think it's hilarious when someone posts a turd and says "Looking for a couple of prospects."  Then when you say "Yeah, I'm sure people will line up to give you two prospects for a guy making 6m for two more seasons while OPSing .660 as a LF", they get all pissy.

World chat = public.

Don't walk down the street naked if you don't want people to point and laugh.  Or, in my case, say "Wow.  That's huge!"
