i'm trying to pull down, and ive consistently gotten two messages.. one says " we are backup" when I scout, and one says "he's def. in our league, keep after him and we have a great shot at landing" when i scout.... does this 2nd message mean i need to keep scouting?

He's told me originally i was backup.. and since then I have sent 17 scouting trips, and a scholly.

Yeah if you got the backup message originally than he is recruitable for you. Although keep in mind that some players will never drop to you. I would recommend sending scouting visits 2 or 3 at a time until you get to the point where your funds become an issue.

this second one sounds like he's recruitable for you right now.  How many evals have you done?  And how many times have you gotten that verbage about him being in your league?

I've gotten:

Overall, I think a DII school would be lucky to get him, otherwise he'll probably thrive in a low Division I program.

BTW, I saw the list of other coaches that were at the game and he's definitely in our league - just have keep after him and we can land him.

Just FYI, I get the definite sense that we're a backup option in case his primary schools don't pan out.

BTW, I gave him a thumbs up after he made a great play, he gave me a big smile - I really think he'll be playing for us next year.

 I sat next to his uncle at the game and I got the impression that we have a great shot to sign this kid. I think his exact were words were 'you have a great shot to sign this kid'.



I've gotten those various responses... overall... 17 ST's and I've gotten 7 responses from him leaning towards playing at my school.   Is that valid enough to send a campus visit and maybe gaurentuee some minutes?

there is zero harm in trying a campus visit. he won't take the minutes guaranteed as he is not considering you yet, but with the CV, all he can do is reject it and you get your money back.

if he takes the CV (or HV), it indicated the player already dropped. if not, it doesn't guarantee he hasn't, but it reinforces the probability that he hasn't.

Depending on the order of the messages you have listed above, it sounds like your 3-5 ST's away from getting him. Guaranteed minutes really don't help much unless your in a battle.

Those sure sound a hell of a lot like a recruit who has already dropped.  Have you called his coach lately?

Coach, I'm very impressed with the program at xxxx  I actually had a dream last night that I was on my way to my first class at XXXXX- maybe it's a sign. You know I'm a Virgo, right?

Followed by:

Coach, just following up your scholarship offer. I REALLY love your program, I'm looking forward to the signing period!

Success. He's considering me, and hope to sign him by the end of the night.

was the guy immediately recruitable when you first asked the question?  What effort did you put in after your original message?  And assuming this is for your ESU team, is this kid the one your'e battling for?  And was this kid considering the other school when you were asking the questions?  Feel free to answer after all your signings are completed if you don't want to divulge anything now.  But I guess I'm curious if the reason you got those "recruitable now" messages but weren't being considered by the kid was b/c maybe he was already considering a D2 school like yourself and they did enough effort to get on the kid's list while you hadn't yet (though you had pulled him down already).

I had something similar happen when I was at FHSU. I had a D1 PG I was eyeing, but he kept rejecting HVs. Stayed persistent, and eventually got nearly identical messages to the ones you posted here. Great work pulling him down, Zbolton!

signed him the first signing cycle... it wasn't the guy i was battling for either (which i won i might add lol)  it was biggerstaff the big center... actually, the guy that i was battling for.. he dropped down to me after already considering the other d2 team with a A- prestige (i think).   very satisfied with this recruiting season.
