I'm looking to apply to a D1 school, and currently I'm  "Not Qualified" for any jobs.  This is the first day of the application period.. .will jobs potentially  open up as cycles go bye, or will I be stuck on "Not Qualified" for the entire application process?

Thanks!

If you're "not qualified" for even the D- jobs at the beginning of the process, I don't think any of them are going to open up to you this year.

Several people on this board said that if you've been in Division-2 for a few years, and have made the NT for 2 straight years, then you'll at a minimum qualify for a handful of sucky "D-" prestige Division-1 schools.

It looks as though Big Tuna has 3 years and 2 straight NT's (Knight). My team has 4 years and 2 straight NT's (Crum).

Apparently, both of us have "not qualified" for any of the 324 Div-1 schools. What's the deal? I'm stuck in Div-2 purgatory for another 8 weeks... of course, who knows, maybe i'll miss the NT this coming year, and then I gotta sit around an additional 8 weeks with my thumb up my ***.

At this rate, I'm going to qualify for Social Security before i qualify for coaching #324 Holy Cross... and I'm only 7 years old...!

4 seasons is the bare minimum you need to get from D2 to D1, in those 4 seasons you'll need at least 3 postseason appearances (2 of which are NT)

Example:

When Knight first opened I went from D3 to D2 in 1 season, then coached for 4 years at D2 going to the NT 3 times. Moved up to D1.
When Phelan first opened I went from D3 to D2 in 1 season, then coached at D2 for 4 years. I went in the PIT 3 times and the NT 1 once. I had to stay another year then moved up to D1 after a NT appearance.
In Crum now I went from D3 to D2 in 1 season, then coached at D2 for 4 years, I went PIT twice and NT once. I stayed another year and went to the NT again. Now moving up to D1.

In fact if you go back and look I don't believe any teams were able to move up after 3 D2 seasons. Even the coaches that won a NT.

Thanks tanner, so i have make the postseason for a 3rd time... and since I've made the NT twice, that means a PI bid should be enough? But I can't move up until i get that PI bid.

Now, please tell me that it's not a "rolling 4 year period", where my 2 NT's would eventually fall off the qualification cliff...

I took a 2 year hiatus at Virginia Union. While I was gone the school turned into a home for unwanted international players. It was a bad team. I've been back now for three season and last season, on a very lucky first round draw, I made it to the 2nd round of the NT. Now I am qualified for half a dozen c prestige jobs and even a long shot for one crappy big east school. Go figure.

I can only assume that the logic looks at a career and more than the last four years or, well I just don't know since I have absolute zero aspirations of taking on a DI job.

The job process looks at your whole career as well as your last 4 seasons.

So at VU milwood had a very successful career before hand which allowed him to have options at D1.

NPB, I wouldn't say next PI bid will get you up. I can fairly confidently say your next NT bid will get you qualified. Whether it comes next season or in 3 seasons.

You need four years. I asked the same question last season. I checked the offers, I had none. You need to be A+ loyalty A+ reputation too. I know I am getting in, even if I lose in the first round of the NT this year. I had teams tell me I needed one more season to qualify. What I don't know is this : if I advance say to the sweet sixteen, will there be something else than D- offers coming my way?

1st year : PI
2nd year NT - Sweet Sixteen (I was sure to get an offer) CT Champion
3rd year NT - First round loss CT Champion
4th year ---- I am getting into the NT, will see what I get.

Yes, you'll qualify for higher prestige D1 schools with more D2 success.  And for what it's worth, there's a pretty big difference in who you can talk to and recruit with D-, D, and D+ prestiges in D1.  I know people are anxious to get to D1, but starting at a D or D- school will only slow the process of getting to a mid major or BCS school down the road.  I would highly recommend spending a few extra seasons in D2 to qualify for something C- or better.  Just my opinion.

Thanks Darnoc, I am trying to make a run into the NT praying to see my first GLV team in the sweet sixteen! Hopefully, get a D+ gig.

Your resume is 10 seasons, not 4.

I believe this is what was put out, yes. But don't the last four carry more "weight"?
