looking to get like 2 crap players to fill upperclassmen spots instead of taking walkons, planning on just getting crap players so no worry of battling what is the lowest I can sign someone for?

If they are really that bad, and you aren't planning on going to a DI job soon, since this would kill your reputation; sign them for $110, which would be a start and a scholarship.  Than dont start them and get the recruiting money back next season.
Not sure what you meant by fill upperclassman spots.  If you're balancxing your classes and specifically want juniors then you can still sign them for $110, youd just have to start them to keep them.

slight correction.  I said it would hurt your reputation,  I think will only hurt your loyalty.  I don't know what the practical difference is.

After the $110 special, next cycle redshirt them then Un - redshirt them same cycle

with the garenteed start how big of a chance of leaving is there if i don't start them?  Are their other options available to get them like a minimum number of calls/letters or 1hv?

That's what I'm saying. Offer start and scholly, then next cycle redshirt them then Un redshirt them. That will take the start off the board. Then like 1 home visit and he usually is yours.

so:
first (start/scholly)
next cycle (redshirt/unredshirt)

then it automatically takes away gaurented start?

yes, but the act of informing of redshirt gets processed immediately and carries a negative recruiting value. Sometimes kids will then reject you before the rescind processes even...at least that used to be the case...

I actually just got a guy for the $100 + the $10 for 10 guaranteed minutes.  That's a $110 special

Yes I agree 100%, but if it is late in the recruiting cycle and he has no one else considering him it usually works. That's why if you have enough money you can throw a HV in there to boost his consideration. I just did this the last 2 seasons on the last day of recruiting and got 4 recruits. 2 I had to send HV and the other 2 signed right away.  But you can throw in minutes too

i was able to sign both guys with just garenteed start + scholly then redshirt/cancel reshirt. granted both players suck but I just needed to balance classes out so its fine

30 Calls and 30 Letters is sometimes cheaper than a HV

So I know about the Start/Scholly $110 special, but in the second cycle when you RS/un-RS, doesn't this cause him to stop considering you altogether if no other effort is involved?  And if you ultimately have enough to offer a HV, why not just do the HV + scholly as a package deal in the first cycle (if you're not worried about anyone else coming in on the same cycle)?  Am I missing something here or is the $110 special in the first cycle simply a placeholder without having to worry about wasting a HV if somebody else targets the kid in the same cycle?

In my experience "(doesn't this cause him to stop considering you altogether if no other effort is involved?)", sometimes yes sometimes no. The reason I don't do HV first, if I have the money, is because I might have 1 scholly left and do this to 3 or 4 guys and don't have the money to do HV to guys far away. If it comes back and 2 didn't stop considering me than I'll throw a HV to the better one to seal the deal. Sometimes I won't and next cycle 1 of the 2 sign.  It can be a placeholder early in the recruiting period, but I usually do this on the last day.

I don't see the point of offering the start and the scholarship and then the redshirt and no redshirt if you're going to need to use an HV anyway.

Just offer the scholarship and the HV and be done with it - it's rare that this doesn't get a kid to sign with you, especially if signings have already started and no one else is on him.
