5 man pitching staff? Topic

Some theme leagues call for using pitchers from a specific year. The problem is in the deadball era some teams only carried 6 pitchers. Would this pitching staff work? Would fatigue play too much of a role?

P1- 454 inn pitched
P2-390 inn pitched
P3-337 inn pitched
P4-332 inn pitched
P5-278 inn pitched

I can't imagine that a team with almost 1800 RL innings will struggle with fatigue.

Be very careful to manage their appearance count and in-game fatigue. If you balance the team correctly, this (plus a 200K mop up -- remember WIS requires 6 pitchers on the roster regardless) can work.

Set them all as SP and check the Available in Relief box in advanced settings and you should have no problem at all. I've used 6 SP totaling around 1300 IP and never had any fatigue problems.

you won't have any problems. Just make sure none of them are on pace to appear in over 70% of the teams games (i.e. <114 games). Like uncleal mentions, set their TPC/MPC based on their real life IP/g (suggest using 15.5 pitches per inning for TPC and 16 for MPC). E.G. A guy who threw 6.29 innings per game might have a setting of 100/100, 95/105, something like that.....

Thank you all for the helpful responses.

If it's a standard salary-capped league, I'd think about dropping the worst of the bottom 3 guys.  He probably isn't contributing very much, and you're investing in a ton of innings here.

If I'm correct in my guess that this is a 1900s White Sox team, then I'd go ahead and cut Altrock.  You'll probably be fine without him unless the cap is very high.

Lol you're good dahs.

The only problem is that there are only 6 pitchers on the roster.

There are only 3 guys in the database with 454 IP/162, and the 2 1896 guys aren't very good.  There are also only 3 guys with 390, and Smith is the only one that isn't terrible.  You could have been rounding, but otherwise, it was pretty obvious.

You can go after the cheaper seasons if that's an option.  Altrock at this point is clearly the 5th man in and he isn't going to get a lot of use.  I don't know what your rules are, but if you can use a cheaper season of his (like sub $1 million 1909) then you could free up more money for your lineup, if there's anybody to spend it on.  Since you can probably restrict him to pitching in blowouts anyway, it shouldn't cost you much.

Of course, if there just aren't more expensive bats to buy, then go ahead and splurge on the best arm.  But the added value is going to be low, so if you can spend that money elsewhere you'll be better off.

Actually I have 8 options to choose from.

I will definitely take your points into consideration dahs.

I've read somewhere that you should form a team with near 1500ip for starters and relief. Then I read somewhere else it should be 1100-1200ip. Maybe for a $100m league?

You recommend near 1300 regardless of league?
