I'd certainly put Spenser in ahead of Hercule Poirot, who never impressed me all that much.

Poirot would be outraged not to make the top ten. He'd take his liqueur and his little gray cells and leave, swearing in French. He stays on my list, so does Colombo.... oh, and Nick and Nora Charles. Also dig Dostoevsky's Porfiry.

I also like the Sue Grafton heroine, Kinsey Millhone, and TV detectives Foyle (Foyle's War), sexy Phriney Fisher, Inspector Murdoch, Inspector Morse.

the Beatles solo albums have never been given proper due..between the 4 ex - Beatles there are several hundreds of great quality " beatles " songs since the apokalypse. im in the process of creating the black album..a sprawling 30 or so song cd for 1970..leaving some george harrison over for project 2 -1971.
the beatles were incredibly strong in the 70s....i think people got distracted if an album had a few clinkers here and there..the following are my top 10 solo albums although there are many many more that are worthy of the list...to me the following are all 4/4 star albums with songs that could have come from noone but the Beatles.

TOP 10 BEATLES SOLO ALBUMS

1. BAND ON THE RUN - 1973 - MCCARTNEY
2. ALL THINGS MUST PASS - 1970 - HARRISON
3. PLASTIC ONO BAND - 1970 - LENNON
4. VENUS AND MARS - 1974 - MCCARTNEY
5. IMAGINE - 1971 - LENNON
6 .RAM - 1971 - MCCARTNEY
7. RED ROSE SPEEDWAY - 1973 - MCCARTNEY
8. MIND GAMES - 1973 - LENNON
9. DOUBLE FANTASY - 1980 - LENNON
10. TUG OF WAR - 1982 - MCCARTNEY

if the Beatles had stayed together Julian Lennon would have been worthy to join the group after John was killed..Julian Lennon has put out some very original Beatles dna music.

Nice job. Eight of those ten I'd keep on that list (maybe change the order a bit). I'd replace Ram and Red Rose Speedway with Wings At The Speed Of Sound and Ringo's Photograph album (where every one of the beatles played on it).
