Can he be a starting power forward or even a stretch 4?

Not a good fit for him with his poor big man skills. A solid 3 though

He can definitely play the 4. Especially playing a fastbreak/press, he gives you better spd/bh/pa in your lineup. And at DIII, his ath/reb is good enough that he'll even be a fine rebounder there.

I'd actually even take it a step further and say that he's a better fit at pf than sf.

Not really sure what MyGeneration is referring to when he says this guy has poor big man skills. Not every pf and c needs to be 90's rebounding and shot blocking.

I just took a quick look at your team though, and the only reason I might suggest you play him at SF, is because you don't have a better option there, and don't have enough guards to move one of them over.

He's definitely a 4 for a team running an FCP in DIII.

With a name like Moses, he can play whatever position he likes.

for most traditional lineups, this guy isn't ideal, even at D3, for a big, so mygen isn't wrong.

for outside the box thinking, maybe with small ball and fastbreak, assuming that yeah, the 1-3 are filled already and its a matter of this guy being backup or starting at the 4, esp if your bigs are slow and clunky, sure, why not...

This is the starting 4 on my 23-0, #6/16 RPI triangle/press DePauw team in Naismith: Brian Murray

And this is his backup...: John English

We lead the nation (significantly) in Turnover Differential and in Steals.

There are other reasons for our success--but having two players similar to Moses at the 4 certainly hasn't been a hindrance for my team.

thank you all, I won't be playing him there this season as it is almost coming to an end, but I will next season as I lose 3 crucial big men. Thank you all!

He is a solid D3 four all day long....And if you are FCP I would not think twice of putting him in the post!

I disagree that this is out of the box. This guy isn't far off from being a perfect fit at pf. If he was 5 points higher in reb, or a little bit higher ath, you wouldn't think twice to use him as a big man in a DIII press.

Dacj, what does your ideal pf look like?
4/12/2016 10:36 AM
Yes without question

Eh, it's hard to tell. He's a - at rebounding. I would expect just about every top 50 RPI team to have a better rebounder in that slot.

He's also not a particularly good defender. That's not a huge deal because he's a good enough defender that most D3 post players won't be significantly better than him.

He's a decent offensive player, I would feel comfortable with him being a 3rd/4th option.

His speed is the true strength. Billy will tell you that speed in the 4/5 isn't worth a whole hell of a lot in the press but it is my experience that team speed on the court plays a big role in causing TO. I am not able to isolate HOW important speed at the 4 and 5 are but I think it's valuable.

With all that being said, I would rather have a guy with 30 less points in speed and 10 more points in ATH, REB, and DEF(or SB).

I have never really been successful with your type of guy in press. I keep trying though!

what's murray relative distro? He's a better offensive player than I thought.
4/12/2016 10:48 AM
Murray is generally getting about 11% of plays called for him. In some more recent games I ratcheted up his distro to closer to 25%-30% to see if he could keep up his FG% and he did.

I think his combination of ATH/SPD/LP/BH helps him, especially with the sheer number of turnovers we force.

To the TS, ever use player roles to gauge efficiency of guys at positions?
