I am 0-22 but I am going to finish 0-26 for sure my first season, Granted I did pick a school with 12 scholarships open and mostly have all freshmen and a couple of bad JR's who were left over from the previous season. Is it possible to turn it around and be decent next season? I will have 1 scholarship open next season because I have some crappy walk on that plays 0 mins. I am going to try to land a high WE and rating guy if I can that lives close to me and can put up points. I guess I am pretty upset but I guess it is what I expected taking on a school with 12 scholarships open and a lot of freshmen starting. I am in the NESCAC conference and my team is Amherst DIII. Has anyone had experiences with just winning no games or winning none at all and turning it around, I hope I can.

Thanks!

Jason

Jason, I had a team finish 1-26 with a 24 game losing streak. Two seasons later, we made post-season. I'm currently on sabbatical from WIS and have no active teams. But I've national titles at both DII and DIII

There are 2 glaring problems with your team, and these VERY common with new coaches. You're right, you have crappy Sim players returning. You can cut anyone you didn't recruit with no penalty. HOWEVER, you won't get extra recruiting money for them.

The other problem is your recruiting class. It's very difficult to succeed with defense ratings that low. At DIII, I won't recruit anyone with a DEF rating below 25 and then, only, if they have high potential for defensive growth. In WIS folkore, you can hide one bad defender with a zone defense, but not two. Speed and athleticism also help defense. I like players with good DEF/ATH at PF and C; good DEF and either SP or ATH at guard and SF. I often play a guard at SF.

I'm not a big fan of zone. Look at the top teams in your division. How many play zone? A few years ago, zone was definitely inferior to the other defenses and almost all coaches dropped it. Then, WIS changed the engine to improve the zone defense. It may be that zone is good , but experienced coaches are afraid to try it again.

You have options:
1) Take what you've learned this season, recruit better, and build your team. In 2-3 seasons, you may be .500
2) Take what you've learned and switch to another school.

This game is fun! Good luck!

Personally I'd aim to take a school in a better situation, even if 2-3 seasons with good recruiting classes you will still have that first class there which is a problem. Starting over at a school with a decent situation will be better and make the game more enjoyable than toughing to it for 4 more seasons and trying to rebuild Amherst. I am in Phelan and when the time comes can offer suggestions on schools to apply to.

Allblack, why not join bbunch and muskie dII iba conf. we need you to dethrone heartland.

A rebuild is 4 years. I don't mind it. But it's not for everyone.

This is pretty good advice I think. Unless you have some personal attachment to that school, then chalk it up to a learning experience and start over. Plenty of schools out there available.

real truth is he finally ran out of trivia about all of his conference opponents and is on a sabbatical scouring the archives of every DII and DIII school in the greater Kentucky area for his return...

This is all great advice. I'd personally do option 2. Unless you are really partial to that school. Otherwise, you will have a much longer period before your team is competitive. I didn't look at the team, but Alblack is an excellent coach. and what he said is totally on the money. You would be much better off with a fresh start on a new team. Also, having all really young players makes it very difficult to win. They are less consistent, and IQ is very important. I also agree that the zone is not as good a defense, although I am trying it at Division 1 now, on a couple of teams. I used to use the press at D3 mostly, but some man to man. With the press you have a bit less control because you are not able to focus on one of your opponents players. But if you build a fast team with good stamina and good Ath and Defense with the press at D3, that is a strong type of team. Defense is really key as well. It's a really fun game, but if you are losing it is not nearly as fun - LOL

Thanks for the advice guys, I already have signed up for a new team in another DIII conference, I might try to stick it out 1 more season with Amherst and see If I can Scrub some wins together. In my new team. I messed up by getting horrible defensive players, guess we learn from our mistakes.

1 more season at Amherst won't make a difference they will struggle to hit more than 4-5 wins at best.

What team did you pick up? Hopefully you didn't pick up another school in a similar situation

I have reserved a team in Naismith. Who knows If I will get it. Can I unreserve a team? I want to pick a new one that this guy offered to help me pick one. I may have to contact support, I have no idea how to take back a reservation.

if you reserve a team it's yours, what team did you get. I'm unsure if you are able to unreserve a team if it's bad maybe you could send a ticket and see what you can do.

Also if you are fine with the 2x worlds, I'd recommend those especially starting out since they move faster and the seasons take less time so you can recover from mistakes quicker. Tark will be open soon and you can move in Phelan as well. However they sync up very close together so theres a period of time where you might get bored with just those 2 teams.

Naismith is also probably one of the the tougher if not toughest D3 worlds too.
