Mid-Major Invitational Season 98 Wooden Topic

Brown:

Jgsolari3 has put together a very young but capable team. 13 straight NT appearances show that Brown will always have the cupboard stacked. Lead by Mark Grau and Mark Deweese, both coming off steller campaigns, Brown has 6 players who can hang with anyone in the nation. However, with 4 high potential Freshmen and a couple more developing players, depth could be a concern against better teams. Legendary coach jgsolari has built this team well however, many of his stars have great stamina and the team ranks T21 in the nation in stamina. Liang Xaimoungkhoun definitely has the best name in the tournament, but no one knows how much that will help the team.

Brown Schedule-
August 2 @ #24 Weber State
August 3 vs Maine
August 7 @ #10 Fordham

Brown Returning Leaders-
Mark Deweese: 19 Points, 3 Assists, 3 Rebounds
Mark Grau: 10 Points, 6 Rebounds, 1 Steal, 1 Block

#10 Fordham:

Trentonjoe has far and away the best team in the Mid-Major Invitational. Led by veterans, Fordham is incredibly balanced. Fordham is athletic, fast, and can score in the post or on the perimeter. Only losing 3 players from a Sweet 16 team and adding a star recruit, Fordham is ranked 10th to start the year. The only possible flaw in Fordham is a frontcourt with only one player with above 82 REB and one player with above 83 SB. Ricky Beauchamp is one of the 5 players in Wooden with 95 or over Speed, Athleticism, and Defense. Averaging 16, 3, and 3, Cubcub is also worried that he will be embarrassed by him in the debut of his own tournament. No other returning player is a proven scorer but Kermit Loveland should be able to step in that role flawlessly.

Fordham Schedule:
August 2 @ Maine
August 3 vs Weber State
August 7 vs Brown

Fordham Returning Leaders:
Ricky Beauchamp 16 Pts, 3 Ast, 3 Reb

Maine:
Jaymc2007 has had a relatively successful but slow rebuild so far, living in the Ivy League and Big East's shadow. He has recruited many high potential players and the average player on his team has improved 8 points, more than anyone else in the tournament. Although the next couple years may be hard for Maine, the future looks very bright. This year, they are lead by the frontcourt duo of Howard Duncan and David Golden who are both nearly averaging 10 and 7. A serious problem for this team could be a lack of perimeter shooting, with no one over 80 PER. After losing 4 seniors last year. only Howard Duncan is coming off of a season averaging double digits.

Maine Schedule:
August 1 vs Weber St
August 2 vs Fordham
August 3 @ Brown

Maine Returning Leaders:
Howards Duncan 10 Pts, 7 Reb, 2 Blks
Alan Eckhoff 7 Pts, 2 Reb, 1 Stl, 1 Ast

August 2nd Games Preview

# 20 Brown (PK) @ # 13 Weber St
Weber State will try to put a stranglehold on the Mid Major Invintational with a win against #20 Brown. This game will be a clash between the depth of Weber State and the star-power of Brown. Brown had three star guards averaging 45 points a game. So far, this has resulted in a very balanced attack for both teams. Weber State has 4 players in double digits with 6 averaging 6 or more points. The game should be close down to the wire and cubcub predicts Home Court will play a deciding factor in this matchup.
Prediction: Weber St. 63-- Brown 61
Important Players Weber St: Weber St. has shot 50% from three so far this year (12 for 24). Can they keep that up in the toughest challenge yet?
Important Players Brown: The three guards can score consistently but can Mark Grau keep up his double digit scoring against the defensive minded frontcourt of Weber St?

# 12 Weber St (-11) @ Yale

Important Players Weber St: Weber St. only has one main three-point shooter, Frank Foster. Can he hit enough threes to keep Weber afloat?
